Have you ever been in a state where you were close to winning a chess game, but you made a move, and you surprisingly found out that it was a checkmate? That happened to me once, and it is here:

‘Close to winning’ is an understatement. After Kf1 (first move above), you can checkmate in two moves. But maybe you were trying something more elaborate?
