Shrewd Sacrifice Checkmate
I agree with the comments so far, but nevertheless, well played! No game is perfect - you did well to spot the checkmate idea.
Try to develop your pieces before moving so many pawns in the opening and you will have more opportunities to pull off checkmates like that.
13. h3 may avoid checkmate but at a loss of material. Because if after I take the rook with my night, he takes the knight with his queen, I take his queen and force his king into a corner that he cannot come out from. He cannot take with his queen.
13.h4 I think avoids checkmate but at the cost of seriously exposing his king.
I think benws has the answer. But, the problem is with moving his rook instead of his king. It's a low rated game on both sides, so mistakes are inevitable.
I really appreciate the discussion people - thanks.
12. Rf2? Kh1 was better.
12. ... Ng4! good one - you punished him appropriately.
13. Qxg4? Greed overcame his good sense. Did he think you moved a knight adjacent to his Q without noticing? Lolz.
...and a nice win.
Of course, dropping the B was bad. However, you recovered well. I think you made too many pawn moves in the beginning but after that I like how you started developing pieces.
I'm a complete chess amateur, and so far this is my best mate. I managed to turn a blunder in the middle of the game where I gave him one of my bishops into a really good checkmate involving a knight sacrifice. Now, I don't know for sure if I'm being proud of myself for nothing - so I'd like your opinion. Feel free to tell me off if this is not at all impressive, I would really like to know. I'm playing black.
