The Underpromotion Brilliancy

This game was played last night in a 3/2 arena tournament. In my previous game I had managed to draw an 1800+ rated opponent by forcing an opposite bishop endgame and had lost the previous game before that to an opponent who wound up getting banned about ten minutes after I reported it. I had no chance to do well as a result and decided on one more game before bedtime. The game isn't perfect and there are a few errors as would be expected in a blitz game, but the result is as satisfying as any game I have ever played. Despite his 1200 rating my opponent played well and I must give him due credit for his willingness to fight on.

This game features the rarest of the rare: an underpromotion to a knight that is rated by the chess.com analysis engine as a brilliant move, which occurs on move 39, Enjoy!

Nice game, but that game is unfair to your opponent since he has lower rating then you.

That's how arena works.

100% correct. I missed this simple and clear win because I was too focused on the center.

And the game ended in a pawn checkmate - Wow.

Very rarely do you get to do an underpromotion, good for you!
With that said, it was easy to spot that the queen promotion allowed Qb8+ and Qxh8 so it was a fairly easy find, good job though!
bennymanchessy

would it still be considered brilliant if i played b8=N#

bennymanchessy

cuz if it is then i got two brilliant moves in one game for the first time in my life

I think it is a cool underpromotion happy.png

Don't pay much attention to the comments about "oh, you missed this" or "you could have won here instead." This is in "game showcase" for a reason - it isn't in "game analysis." Relax people grin.png

"Underpromotion Brilliancy" refers to the strategic decision of subtly promoting a product, service, or idea without overtly pushing it. This approach focuses on organic growth, relying on word-of-mouth, customer satisfaction, and understated marketing techniques. It often leads to a more genuine connection with the audience, as it avoids overwhelming consumers, allowing for authentic engagement and trust-building.
