2024 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships: Official Discussion Thread

For the first time, the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships are taking place in the United States. The premier speed chess tournaments will be held on Wall Street in New York City with a brand new format including a knockout in the Blitz.

Between Christmas and New Year's, December 26-31, the world's best chess players, including world number-one GM Magnus Carlsen, descend on the Big Apple for their share of the nearly $1.5 million prize fund and FIDE's most prestigious titles for speed chess.

Rapid kicks off the event starting December 26, 2:00 p.m. ET / 20:00 CET / 12:30 a.m. IST (next day). If you'll be in New York this holiday season, you can purchase your tickets here.

It would be strange for Gukesh and Ding to "avoid" playing bbbb b..ut fff...FIDE are kkk ...known for ant ... ttt ... antics ... to miss out playing in the "rumble in the jungle" is strange ... Niemann is there ... so he's not "running for the woods" and he would have to face Carlson and Nakamura if he's going to get 1st,2nd,or 3rd ... it shows character
