Maybe when my diamond membership runs out I won't bother to renew. Existing premium membership accounts should be offered 50% off the renewal price just like the members that don’t support Chess.com.

And if you were CEO and you instated that policy, you would preside over an instant 50 per cent fall in the company's revenue. Talk about value destruction. I don't think you would last long in the job.

It could simply be 25% for both new and old premium members. I understand they are trying to bring in new paying customers but I just don't think people who got the them this far by supporting them throughout all this time should be excluded, that's all I wanted to say. I know this is business but unless they are in money crisis which they are certainly not judging by how well they are doing, offering discounts like these once in a while will pay at least double in the future. They are already number one online platform and if fide does not start doing something soon they might even take over the whole chess scene in the future. As a business decision i would definitely go for long term and customer satisfaction over anything else at this point.

I totally understand your point. It doesn't seem fair - and yet business models won't allow you to reward paying members in this same way - at least, not without hurting existing revenue streams, which shareholders would not appreciate.

Nobody has mentioned that these deals are likely for the first year only. They will renew at the then-regular price, won't they?

Diamond is now $120 per year.

There are many long-time subscribers grandfathered-in at pre-2022 prices. For diamond, that was $99 per year.

So, if they canceled their $99 per year deal and resubscribed at $60 for this year, they would then pay $120 per year thereafter. The $39 year one savings this year would be gone by the start of year 3. And there would be a $20 surcharge thereafter.

If I were chess.com, I would consider letting long term subscribers out of their existing grandfathered deals and let them resubscribe.

I plan to be playing chess for more than the next three years. How about you?

In chess, you have to learn to think ahead.
