50% off excluding premium members

One thing you learn when joining chess.com is that Martin Stahl is informative and helpful even if the truth isn’t something you want to hear, whereas folks like theswooze have a massive chip on their shoulder and will bad mothball of chess.com with any chance they get. You can look at their respective body of work on here and learn that for yourself

Exactly my point. I understand they are trying to get some more quick money into the house, but excluding already supporting members who helped them rise up to where they are today is just unacceptable to me. The least they should do is give the existing premium members the 50% off code so they can use it upon renewal of the membership. It is absolutely right they should try to get new members to subscribe but not by throwing the existing ones under the bus

David

They’re not charging you more than what you agreed to pay.

It’s also for students who generally have less disposable income than others. If they maintain their premium membership even after finishing study, they’ll still get the benefit, but if they let their premium membership lapse they will only be able to get the discount if they can demonstrate that they’re still a student.

Students have their own discount, this has nothing to do with them. I'm all for anybody getting benefits but why should they exclude existing premium members. You don't seem to understand what we are talking about here David

I understand very well - you’re feeling left out of a benefit being offered to attract new members to the web site. You want it offered to existing members, even though you recognise that it’s an incentive to attract new members, not retain existing ones.

You can always close your existing account and start a new one and use that to get the discount. You might need to shuffle some email addresses to get that down and obviously you’d have to do some work of you want to rejoin your clubs and friends and walk away from your game history, but chess.com isn’t going to lower the boom in you for doing that.

That's the case everywhere. Whether you take out insurance, open a bank account, with Amazon Prime, Audible, telephone providers or whatever. New customers often receive discounts. Then you just have to cancel the contract and come back as a new customer.

I don't want to do that, I shouldn't even have to be thinking about that, I've been a chess.com member and a premium subscriber for years. I should not have to think about stuff like this, cancelling memberships, making new accounts or changing emails or whatever just to get the same respect. Do you see where I'm going with this? Of course I am feeling left out, I even stayed when they were raising prices on the memberships, taking away essentials like game analysis, saying to myself that I'll give them that extra money and show my support and stick with them. Would it really hurt them to show some respect to the premium members as well ? I understand how they are thinking, they think existing premium members are going to suck it up and stay anyway because they are already invested and have history and connections here but things might not always turn out the way you expect. Greed is bad for business, the chess.com community should be their first priority. It does not matter how you say it or if this is the case elsewhere in business, it is still wrong. This is not your everyday telephone provider, this is a game, a beautiful historic masterpiece brought online that will last an eternity.

Can I apply the CCT24 code with student discount?

Are they seriously giving 50% off on memberships to everybody but the already paying members who support their platform all these years? This is outrageous, what a stab in the back

Loyalty in todays business world = mug.

You live in a fantasy world, you actually think this business values your loyalty, you're just another punter/mug to them. All big businesses think that way.

That is just sad. I never thought it would come to this in chess.

dokerbohm

i think as a non paying player here they should give the existing prem. players a discount say 25% off and new members 50 % off that way everyone feels they are included in something

It should just be 50 each, they get new subs for 1 billing cycle some quick money into the house and show the premium members they matter as well giving them 50 off as well and its fair for everybody. Most of the new subs will leave after 1 billing cycle anyway, its the already paying members who are willing to stay for long, but if they see they are getting excluded it might not be this way for ever

Pretty sure it's a limited time offer. It's not something that's going to be available long term, though it's always possible they'll have future similar promotions to attract new premium members.

why so much discrimination and hatred against my indian lads

It's not discrimination. I believe India already has different prices and that's why the student discount is different.

That pretty much how all purchases work. If you buy and it later goes on sale, you don't get a refund/discount.

Good lord Martin, could you be any more of a chess.com sycophant?

I'm not. It's a simple fact that's how purchases work in the vast majority of the world.

No

I think Martin Stahl balances the act of being here for the community and at the same time at least a part time employee by chess.com well.

I still always cancel my membership any year to make a new membership and never regreted it...

I know a lot more than you think I do wink

When I post something prefaced with I believe or I think that's usually based on some actual knowledge but I may not have the details fully correct. If I post something more matter of fact, when it pertains to a the site, that's normally because I have specific knowledge of those things.

Are you guys doing math or m#th?, YOU bought the subscription, YOU AGREED to the payment amount, you can't go and have a baby fit when it goes on sale to attract more people to the game, you are going in and feeling "entitled" to benefits that are offered to newcomers, also I was appalled at the disrespect towards @Martin_Stahl you guys should be grateful that he is always there to help, he does a lot more then you think, he has helped me and many many others, if you are going to complain then at least have some decency.

You mention decency, but the decent thing to do is for chess.com to reward their loyal customers with a discount when they renew. That's the DECENT thing to do.

yet again you are feeling "entitled", did you not agree to the price of the membership? a sale is something EXTRA, and chess.com has already lowered the price on the memberships from 16.99$ a month to 10$ a month, if you are a loyal customer good for you, enjoy your membership but don't go and start throwing a fit because you can't have something that isn't part of your agreement, I don't understand why you feel entitled, there is nothing saying you get a discount after you are a loyal customer
