Beginner to 1200 Rapid in under 10 months

Sort:
fsknve

I reached my goal of 1200 rapid! I read this is the threshold of becoming a "serious" chess player of sorts. My account shows its only been 10 months since I opened it and I started from 400 elo which I was at for a while. Before that I knew how the pieces moved but didn't know castling or how to actually play until I started chess.com

Anyway I haven't read of anyone achieving 1200 in under 10 months so I didn't expect to get to it in under a year even. Until I reached 1000 like two months or so ago.

I'm 28 so apparently according to conventional chess wisdom or something it would be near impossible to become an international master? Not sure why that could be the case

At least hopefully people know from this post that much more is achievable than people say. If I can do it in that amount of time you can too.

Happy chess playing to you all

The older you are, the harder it is to get better. From what ive seen, adults putting in full effort seem to peek around 2000 fide or at the most NM.
