I seriously don't get why the site takes money

Black-Dog2

So website development should be free? Maintenance should be free? Lessons should be free? Why would anyone put their time and effort in with no reward?

They probably made a lot these past years. just use that for financing

Money isn't infinite and the site has significant costs in staff, equipment, content, etc. The method used to afford to continue enabling those things are premium subscription services. I'm sure the site has some amount of reserves but would quickly burn through anything they have if they did as suggested.

at least all lessons should be free

Don't get why your parents do too. They should work for free

At least all the food in your house should be free for others.

JUST THE LESSONS, MAN. THAT SHOULD BE FREE. ANOTHER BAD POINT IS HALF FREE LESSONS, JUST MAKE THEM TOTALLY FREE

General, you should start Communist party of India and after you win elections, you can nationalise Chessbase India.

lmao, that's funny. I also don't like the price but what y'all are saying is too funny, comment #3 saying "They probably made a lot these past years. just use that money for financing" bro money ain't infinite, that's like saying "u ate a lot of food these past years, u should just stop eating" like they need to pay staff's and stuff, and comment #5 saying "at least all lesson should be free" lmao no. Then why u do pay ur tutor? His lesson's should be free, why do the school pay their teachers? Why do ur parents workplace pay ur parent?

EmTat

I think that they should lower the price, but what y'all are saying is extremely funny.

Bro, just think. You are running a website but you get very less money. You want to make them free?!

The site pays for content. Some from staff directly, some from outside creators. There are some free lessons available.

General-Rookwallis-2

I agree with free chess. With alll the advertisements and the number of members, chess.com should have earning a very hefty income. Furthermore, the support has gone from good to really bad. There is no way to contact chess.com unless you use the chat box, which doesn't allow you to connect to a person or leave a detailed message. The support page doesn't work with Firefox and I couldn't get it to work with chrome either. (and I'm a computer professional, thank you) Then, if you file a report after playing live chess, there is never a reply and none of the bugs are fixed. So, it seems chess.com has actually gone downhill. If I were considering a paid membership before, I will certainly not consider it now. Why pay money for ZERO SUPPORT? It's not worth paying money to get access to the review feature for every game and I don't see how any of the other perks are much different than free chess. While I like chess.,com and consider it the best chess website on the Internet, I have other financial obligations that are really more important, such as supporting the Ukraine Armed Forces and taking care of my family. One feature chess.com needs is the ability to limit the number of opponents from the same country each day. The website is overwhelmed with players from India and Ì would like a better mix of nationalities when I play chess. The rude comments from male players from India, asking my age, my weight, am I married, etc., has forced me to turn off chat. Then, I have to turn it back on if a player from another country is my next opponent. Maybe guys don't have this problem, but for women, the number of Indian players per day really needs to be limited. And there should be an option when you file a report after a live game where the chat is automatically included so support can see what's going on. I think chess.com doesn't care about its members anymore because the silence from support is truly deafening.
