See it like as win-win. You either have the satisfaction of winning or you loose handicap. You always win!
Chess tilt - lost 200 elo in 1 week, ready to quit
I'm struggling with the same thing. I try and keep to a rule of only three games a day, only when well rested, and if my blunder rate starts going up, take a break.

You make some very good points. I recently learned a strategic playing system, it changed my understanding of chess, how I see, think and play it. Initially a jump in my rating, but then I had a ton of losses...but against bots. I wanted to rapidly learn and work through the playing variations in the strategy. I started playing the system against harder and harder bots. I made every tactical blunder humanly possible learning the position. I would play against the bots until I made a stupid mistake or learned something new, immediately resign and start over. I climbed from beating 1200 rated bots through 1800. Then I jumped and am now battling and losing to a 2000 rated bot. I can take it into the late end game even, but always lose...and I don't understand at present the strategy it is using to beat me. But, I'll learn.
Don't play on tilt! Stop already! Take a break, eat something, walk the dog, read a forum, listen to some music. But when on tilt you need a break.
Don't quit chess. Battle! I always play against the best opponents I can find. I set my opponent game assignment rating settings on infinity for the high rating and -25 points for the low rating. I always play evenly matched at the minimum or harder opponents. Yes, I lose more but it makes me a better player at a faster pace. But, no easy games. What I enjoy most about chess is the strategic and tactical calculations and the personal challenge of the competition. I review every game and try to figure out how to play better next time.
I lost a few hundred points in bullet, and now chess.com won't let me join tournaments because they think I'm sandbagging. Nope. I just suck at bullet. Lol...
So I definitely relate to this post!
I am 12 and I have a FIDE elo of around 1865 rn. I “accidentally” closed my old account like several months ago (because I loss over 50 elo…) Back then I was only around 1250 elo. After deleting my account, I regretted immediately. Because that account was made when I started playing chess. It had all my memories. Thats when I started to lose interest chess. I had no urge to play. Until one day I joined a chess club at school, and my interest for chess came back. Why? I played with a senior form student and I won 3 times in a row! But then what shocked me the most was that he had an elo of 1370! I began to think how come my chess skills improved even I haven’t played, then I realised it was because I watched yt vids about chess for all the time. I know that seems sus since I lost interest in chess, but I think deep inside of me I didn’t want to quit. Its like saying that you want to die but actually you don’t. You are just too mad and need to relax. Just temporarily leave chess and learn more before taking on anyone else, it will help boosting your confidence. If you keep losing, you must stop. I know you will want to regain elo, but losing in a row means you are not in condition yet. Take a rest and calm down. Elo is just an estimation. I know to stop yourself from trying to regain elo is hard (I cant even do it myself) but you need to try. I have lost over 300 elo in this new account of mine but that’s because many people I face have more experience than me. That goes for the same for you ig.
What is your fide elo?

Ugh, I'm sorry that happened. I worry I'll get flagged up as sandbagging too because sometimes I stupidly play late at night when tired and lose as much as 200 ELO because I can't. stop. blundering.

Just don’t play and take a rest bro, watch some youtube vids and relax. You’ll be fine. I lost 300 elo in two days too IN RAPID
After you lost the rating points, were u able to find them? One time I lost my car keys and it took me a while to find them. They were on floor and had fallen down
Not funny bro
Sandbag a little like me and then get a win streak after a week. I lost a bunch of ratings so I decided to sandbag more. To sandbag you have to pretend to misclick in situations when you are winning.

Sorry that happened, that sucks. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one though.
I went from an almost-peak blitz rating of 1175 (low rating, I know), and then dropped into the 1040's. (ouch) I wasn't winning against many other 1000-rated players. Then I hit a big spike and went up to 1190. Although I am only around 1120-1130 now, I still got back up in a respectable (for my level) rating range.
Once i dropped from 1200 to 900
I took a break. I started playing less frequent ( max 5 rapid games a day, on average i played 3).... Now I am high 1200 ( nearly 1300)....
Something like this is actually pretty common. Take a break, or play against bot, to bring back your chess senses.
I won't recommend playing against bots because if you lose to a bot which you used to defeat easily( let's say Sven or Emir) twice in a day... You are sure to deactivate your account... I think you should just forget what happened and pause playing chess for a couple of days...

I should probably try and stick to just 5 a day too, because I've been struggling a lot with inconsistency. Sometimes I can think clearly and sometimes I just get the blunders and lose 9 games in a row.
I am going to try it too. My rating is still much too high. So I will take a five day break and see if I can reach the high 1200s. If it works for you why not me? I'm sick of all this handicap piling up.
And there is this: Chess.com has detected that one of your opponents has cheated and has punished you for that by increasing your rating handicap. Every day!! I mean. Why? I have never cheated. Why am I punished like this? If you add all of them up its hundreds of points!!
What have I done to deserve that? How can I ever win an arena if those stupid handicap points are just shoved in like that? Is it a collective punishment?
blitz this should be normal
-200 in a week has happened to me in bullet a couple of times, and i've bounced back (don't play blitz much)
