The Caro-Kann is a strategic opening invented many years ago. It leads to closed positions ( sometimes open if you are aggressive) and it's a popular choice with black. Here's a game in which Black plays a open Caro-Kann
Chess game -
A typical caro kann position. Black has a better position than white. Also remember the kingside bishop is better than the queen side knight or bishop ( same with kindside knight).
