High CPU Usage

Sort:
TheVirtual2

I just installed Firefox, and played a quick game of chess, firefox was consuming anywhere between 5-30% of my CPU. I'm going to restart my computer and try playing chess on both firefox and chrome

I'm planning on it xD

After restarting my computer, no change for Chrome's CPU usage, but Windows is telling me to update (again) so I'll try updating it. Knowing Windows, it might take me an hour before I can update you guys on my issue. Firefox has no issues with Chess.com

After updating windows again, There is no change. Chess is still using high amounts of CPU usage

Richard

As it seems to be okay on firefox it seems to be a chrome browser issue not a chess.com issue. You could try update chrome or uninstall it and reinstall it after reboot. Just remember you could lose your chrome settings so do at your own discretion.

It's better. I can now play blitz games just fine, but my daily game still consumes high amounts of CPU

Richard

Glad you have made progress, at this point it does seem to be a browser issue so not much more i can really recommend. I hope your experience is better now though.

I am no expert at all but:

1. did you empty the caches?
2. did you consider uninstalling chrome and installing it again?
3. Do you have tabs with engine analysis open while playing?
TheVirtual2

I emptied the cache on multiple occasions. There is no engine analysis open in another tab. I have not uninstalled and reinstalled chrome because I didn't want to lose passwords and such

I know some people are saying that Lenovo support has gone to [censored] but I think it would be best to contact them

I found a solution to the problem! If you go to google chrome settings you can turn on hardware acceleration. Chrome will restart and the all of the cpu usage rom chess.com basically disappears.

Try Edge instead. It solved my problems. Game is fluid and cpu temp reaches 80 max. It sits around at 60

Yeah I know, I tested it with Firefox, no issues. Besides, that way only on my old computer. I got a new one with no problems

this might sound weird but the reason for this happening is because your piece animation is set to arcade i had this exact problem and realized it after turning off arcade.

Also do not allocate too many threads or too much hash memory to any engines that you use because it will overheat your computer. Press CTRL + SHFT + ESC to open Task Manager, click on performance and adjust your engine to a safe level.
