Hey guys , I am a 1000 rated player .  In my recent games one of the most annoying openings for me has come up - The Scandinavian . How can I counter this and get a good position as White early in the game? Any tips / tricks would really help . Thank you

idk

Take the pawn on d5 . Then either play the main line which is nc3 or just nf3 and castle .both give white an advantage

There is also a gambit if you want it’s nc3 after Queen takes q a5 and then b4.it’s called the lion heart gambit.if 2 nf6 then play d4 too be solid or try c4 but you have to learn the portugese gambit theory after bg4 attacking you Queen

The scandi was one of the reasons I gave up on 1. e4 many years ago. It gives white only a small edge and it's solid. Hard to beat.

e4 d5, exd5 Qxd5, Nc3 (gain a tempo) Qg5 or Qa5, Nf3 - if Queen checks from anywhere in the e-file just Be2 then Nf3 then castle.

your next move should be d4 and put a pawn in the center (before or after the castle)

- - - -

that early attacks will give you chances to develop with some tempos, and those will pay off. I never had difficulties against scandnavian really.

Use your development advantage to launch an attack before opponent could fill the gap.

Play the bc4, d3 setups. They are easy to play.

A friend of mine used to tell low rated players he would face in the 1st round of a Swiss that they could take back 1...d5 since he did not want to crush them easily. Half of the youngsters did that and "forced" themselves to play defences they were not comftorable with. A bit unethical and probably illegal. But it worked! I would not do that since I am an honorable person.

It is not a dangerous opening if you know one or two things about chess. The monkey queen goes out early but you can push it in the corner board. He will close up all with e6 c6 but if you endure for 40 good maneuvres move you are done or dead tired winner!!

Just take, and play 3.Nf3, Be2 and follow with d4 and c4. Simple really.

Chessmood has a great course on it.

Bro why fear an opening

TheMainCharacter_SS

Arin bro its not about fear its the fact that your bad at some openings and always end up losing in them. Now I am good playing against the Scandi and you should test out forums cuz they really help!

At the 1000-rated level, you could try the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit. Most Scandi players at that level won't be prepared for it.

Another possibility is 2. Nc3
