so i started about 5 months ago and ive climbed to about 1400, i reached my peak rating of 1474 about 5 days ago (i believe), and after that, i had a small tilt (lost 50 elo), but i eventually gained back about 42 elo. Yesterday i decided to get back to my peak rating but lost 6 games in a row. i decided to take a break and try to get back to my peak rating today, but i lost 2 more games and dipped like 15 elo (im now 1409). i play rapid btw and i keep losing or drawing winning games. also, i know there is bound to be someone who says that a 65 elo tilt is a rookie number, but tilting isnt a flex and it is quite frustrating.

It is normal to lose points after reaching a peak. That's why we call it a peak.

In chess psychology plays a major role. In your quest of growing your elo you might find yourself playing only for this reason even when you're not really enjoying playing chess. This is one major reason for a tilting. If this happens alot, you might be playing too much and you should cut on the playing time and increase time spent studying and analyzing games. If you notice youre frustrated during a game, stop playing for a while and study games and chess, get inspired again.

You should be aware that losing lots of games continuously might lead to a ban. (It’s happened to me before) sad.png

The online ratings are unreliable, especially for faster time controls. If your true playing strength is 1400, you should expect to see your rating fluctuate between 1300 and 1500. So a drop of 65 points is insignificant.

if you are concerned about your skill level, which is more important that your rating, you might consider changing the way you study chess. Perhaps you could put more time in looking at games of masters or endgames.
