Is it cheating if i start learning about an opening once i see an opponent use it.

For example, in a daily game: If the game starts (me as black) d4, d5, c4, and i then open up the lesson on the queens gambit, would y’all consider that as cheating?

No.

in a daily game, you are allowed to have access to books.

A lesson offers you general guidelines about positions. It cannot possibly cover every move.

It’s not something I would personally do, but I don’t think it’s cheating necessary. As others have stated: book moves will only get you so far. Sometimes your opponent will throw you a curve ball.

I did that halfway through a game, and my opponent flat out just said that I should have already started doing so when the game started.
