I think that stalemate is the worst rule which ever exists... You are about to win and Ola! Stalemate?!

A bad workman blames his tools.  Also what's ola?

Avia, I know what do you feel, but consider this: if you are losing and your opponent is careless and allow you to make a nice combination which ends with stalemate, then this means that your opponent probably did not play well.

Keep in mind that is it easy to give a winning position away in pawn endgames or when trying to checkmate with K + Q vs K, where a chess player has to know what he is doing. The better you get in chess, the more you will regard stalemate as an interesting part of the game.

Stalemate is valid for both players. Is the same as when playing OTB you have to move a touched figure, even if this means losing the game. This is not unfair, only the rule of the game, valid for both players.

Try to find some stalemate tactics to see how you can save your skin by scarifying material and you will begin to change your attitude.

It's a rule. Stop whining about it.

White to move (you are white)

Avila, check this game in the forum and you will see a nice ending fight, where my opponent did everything possible to get a stalemate in a lost position. Several times I had to think a little longer to avoid the stalemate. Without the stalemate, the game would be less interesting. It is just a further component of the game, and we have not only to accept it but use it to our advantage, as my opponent tried to do. Check the game and tell me what do you think. Copy paste the words below and search the game in the forum:

Matting with K, B and N ... but still with two pawns each!

gingerninja2003

if you miss the stalemate it's your fault.

Friedmelon, nice example: the game is over after Rd8: stalemate. Do you see Avia? White use an interesting combination to save the game. It is similar to a combination where a lot of material is sacrificed to checkmate. Somebody could argue that this is not fair, and the game is over as soon as someone has a lot of material. But the rules are clear: more material doesn't mean automatically that someone will win.

Lame rule. Like being up in football 24-7 but they call it a tie... Just my opinion ..that and 4 bucks gets you a coffee at Starbucks

Which piece is directly attacking white's king? surprise.png

I agree. I can’t get passed Nelson (vs computer) as every time I am about to win, it concludes a stalemate! BS

If a new player doesn’t know what stalemate is and how it works then it must be time for him to learn it. And if a new player doesn’t want to learn it, then he should be ready for a lot of heartache. It has been declared as a draw since 1807, before any of us was even born.

I made an individual post and just got a response on it I had confusion on the rule i recognize that now still its confusing for more casual players ive played a lot not online against my grandfather and father and have lost many times in situations that i know realize are stalemates when i play with them im still gonna play like we used to but for this play i will keep it in mind
