Move time limit
Does nobody nor chess.com have a reply to this ? Surely there must be a way of stopping idiots from ruining chess games
There really isn't a solution to this. What if my position is complicated and I need to take time to figure it out? I know it sucks, but you're allowed to use your clock however you want.
Oh big deal! I waited THREE DAYS for an opponent to time out. I went to work, ate, and found other ways to use the time. Gee, you had to wait 10 minutes! 😭
Don't worry, come to North Korea. We don't tolerate this juvenile American attitude at our chess camps and tournaments. Either you make a move or we discipline you. It is very effective.
Marklovejoy I don't understand your cynicism . Of course in a normal game you can wait as long as you want for the opponent to play . My objection is that in a 15 minute game I wait for 10 minutes because the person has walked away from the game but I can't walk away because if he or she suddenly moves then my time starts going down and If I'm not there I lose . I've had people make one move and then go away . It's such bad sportsmanship ! Sometimes I have to leave because of domestic needs but I always apolgise to my opponent and then resign .
Far too many times have I been abandoned by my opponent and had to wait until their time is finished or resign in order to move on . It is so so frustrating especially when you have made a nice move and want to follow it through . Why these people do this I cannot understand - they are obviously not serious players . Is it not possible to have a time limit for each move ? OK it shouldn't be too short because that can change the game but say 2 minutes ? It saves waiting 10 minutes because your buggered if you're going to resign when the idiot opponent deserves a lesson.
