my game has started, thanks for the info however.
for color, i just choose "play as random" and that keeps it fair (i think).

You sord of messed me up because i signed up and alex_m never got back and i have yet to play a game.
I'm still playing my first game, but how do we know who we play in the second round? Is there a spreadsheet or a list that someone could post the link too? Thanks.
This tournament is taking longer than I suspected. Most players still haven't finished their first game. For the next round, I will make the time limit for moves one day. I apologize for the inconvienence.

I just want to remind everyone that this is a huge tournement so far. We will probably have something like twelve primary rounds and then players will be ranked based on their preformance. After this, players will be categorized by how many games they won or lost and paired with another player of the same group. This is my first time doing a tournament, but I feel that I have a very good grasp of how this tournament should be run.

It would depend if the person that you are playing lets you, but the first round isn't over, and there are still plenty of games to be finished. You can go on vacation I guess.

My opponent mishandled the opening, playing too passive... then dropped a rook and a pawn for nothing and eventually overlooked a checkmating threat.
