Online chess players

Okay, no angry responses please, but I have to ask the question. Are there any good online chess players on this site? I do not mean that to sound arrogant but I have not been challenged at all so far. I just easily beat a guy on here rated over 1800(Ret was his name I think). I play in tournaments and at a local club so I am not a master. Is the rating system here that far off from real world ratings? The higher rated people won't play me because my rating is to low and the people rated lower are awful so far. I just had a 9 move win against a player rated almost 1500!

The openings for the those I have played are erratic at best. Players seem to rely on crazy openings instead of accepted opening lines. This is not to insult anyone and I don't expect a challenge from a high rated player, I just really want to know where I can find a good match.

Examine the Glicko rating system.  We are not operating under Elo or FIDE rating systems, so perhaps your expectations were geared towards a 1500 Elo or FIDE, rather than a Glicko 1500?

I saw your match against Ret after 23. Nxd4 Rxd4 24 Be3 he would have won your a-pawn and it would be even material except he should win that endgame because of his better pawn structure and his bishop would've proven stronger than your knight. He resigned a game he was winning for no apparent reason

jdavison
Interesting analysis of our game, wrong though. And no he wasn't winning. He resigned when he saw I was going to be a pawn up.
jdavison
After Be3 I could have easily moved my rook to protect my a7 pawn or attacked his h2 pawn. So he resigned because his end game was lost.

Man ret, calm down. The article was not about you. I even said I am not great. Just want a challenge. You were not it. There was no offense ment by it.
erik
pay your dues like everyone else and just keep playing until you have a rating that truly reflects your game. once you are above 2,000 then perhaps you will be lucky enough to play the strong players on our site. it take a quick-to-conclusion-jumper to think that after playing 5 games (only one of which was with someone over 1500) you can say there are no good players. interesting....

'No angry responses please but'...

I can't imagine anyone wanting to play you after what you said.  IMHO the rating here is applicable only here.  I don't believe it has any direct corrolation to any other rating system.

I for one would like to see Ret puiblish your pleadings - if only to defuse your inflamatory posting

If you can not see the offense in the comments you have made, maybe chess is not the game for you. You could try rugby; no gentlemanly conduct expected whatsoever.

TONIGHTONLY,

I take exception to the rugby comment, but that another ball game.

You guys are funny. Keep the posts coming. All of these emotional responses to my post are great. You crazy whacky internet chess players, driven by emotion, good for you guys. I prefer soccer, not rugby.

If you wonder why you aren't finding a challenge, take a look at your opponent's ratings.  Besides RetGuvvie98, your previous opponents are all below 1450.  1425, 1311, 1195, and 879.  Even in your current games, three of your five opponents are 100-350 points beneath you.  You only have two games against higher-rated opponents; one is 100 points above you, and the other is the game that you probably wanted, against a 2200 rating.  If higher rated opponents won't play you because your rating is too low, then increase it.  I'm sure there are quite a few players out there who are rated around 1600-1700 that will play you.  Then, when your rating is around 1700 or so, start playing at 1800.  It's simple.  Good luck!  Smile

Thanks cmh0114. That is what I intend to do. Didn't expect this much emotional response from the others.

jdavison,  you compound your transgressions against all players here by attempting to mislead all.

To quote the Bard:   "  Methinks thou dost protest too much."

YOU named me in your article.  Had you not done that, then you could claim to not be pointing at me.     When someone begs me to play them, and I play them an unrated game, I will toss it to them so that they will feel gratified and leave me alone in the future.

now don't you feel good about your "WIN" ???

enjoy.   and do what erik posted:  pay your dues, win against the best who will play you - and 'earn' the right to play higher rated players.

oh, and get your towel out to wipe behind your ears too.  you need to do a little growing up.

you meant to offend or you would not have named me.  don't lie to everyone.

p.s. I'm not offended

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Anyway - hip hip hooray for RetGuvie98.  According to his profile, he's 108 years old, so good work that man!!! Wink

jdavison
ret, post away buddy. It would by funny to see how I begged you to play me. I thought I was courteous in my messeges to you, maybe not. SO post away, I am curious.
jdavison
But how do I know they are mine and not just stuff you make up because you are an angry emotional person? I beg a lot so I will know if it is my begging. ALso Ret, why don't we play a rated game? Since it will mean so much more you should beat me no problem. Of course you don't accept challenges so you will have to challenge me. I on the other hand will accept any challenge, especially from you retmyster.

Chill out mate all good things come to those who wait and there are lots of good players on this site even IM's so dont worry in time u will find them i would play u but i got enough games to deal with at the moment but i will keep u in mind u seem like someone worth playing against good luck in your games mate.....
jdavison
Thanks littleman, I look forward to it. I play chess for the same reason I play any sport, the challenge. I just want to play the best. I spend all this time reading chess books and studying positions, just want to see how I measure up against the best. I will work my rating up and go from there.
littleman
good for you ! u like a challange thats great just keep playing and build up the ladder so to speak and ur going have fun win lose or draw .....
jdavison
Ya, I have fun win lose or draw. Losing teaches me more than winning. I like studying my mistakes. Whenever your schedule eases up let me know, certainly I can beat an Australian. Isn't Australia's population entirely criminals?
