Poor Sports (a monolog by ME)

Sort:
cheater_1

I swear, chess players have got to be the poorest sports of any type of competitors out there. Over the last couple of days, I played about 60 internet chess games ranging from 2 minute games to 15 minute games. I will confess that I used Fritz for about 50 of those games. For the record, when I played legitimately, I won maybe 6 out of 10. With Fritz on my side, I won all my games except 3 (I lost on time). Of all the games that I won, cheating or legit, no more than 10 or 12 people had the DECENCY to say "good game". Where has the manners gone in this game? Granted, Fritz brutalized some pretty good players, but you have to at least act like a sportsman or sportswoman and say "gg". Now, I used the name "slowpokey" and gave Fritz every possible second to think about the best moves. I also said that I was a retired college professor in his 70s. The abuse I got from people who lost was DISGRACEFUL to the game. I never used any negative tones in my conversations and tried to act like a perfect gentleman, but it didn't matter. I can therefore conclude that the average age of internet chess players is 15. Without a doubt, 90% internet chess players are poor sports.

I find it amusing that a confessed cheat has the nerve to be critical of others. LOL

You have the gall to say you seek decency?  If the 50 or so people who just inadvertently played Fritz had wanted to play Fritz, they would have turned on the program and done so.  They wanted to test their skills against a seasoned human opponent; that's why they're here.  You have wasted their time.  One might ask why YOU are here; I wouldn't take a job watching people play against the computer.  Why do you want to spend your time doing it for fun?

That would be a great question.  I hope you see the irony of chastising people for being poor sports while committing probably the least sportsman like offense in correspondence chess.  Go hustle on games.yahoo or some other non-serious chess site.

haha, on yahoo hustlers... funnily enough i only found this site after someone on yahoo with a really crap rating (and many games played) advertised for someone to play him if they think they're good.  It was pretty obvious i would be playing a computer, but i thought wth, i'll play anyway,(while i dont think i'm very good, i think i'm better than someone <1000 on yahoo!).  Turns out he was using little chess partner set on 'hard' but it seems it still doesnt look too far ahead cos he played a centre counter and failed to stop a really obvious trap winning his queen.  I mean, it wasnt ingenious or anything, i just boxed it in with pawns.  It put up a good fight considering it was a queen down for a piece i think, playing very computer like, solid moves thereafter, but obviously it went down in the end as I just had to force exchanges, even bad ones, and it couldnt avoid them all.  The funniest thing was that despite seeing the computer drop the queen really early, and then watch me play on for 10 minutes or so (each) and a good number of moves, he was still amazed i won! he must have thought that it was some sort of super amazing queen sac that was going to show itself any minute.   Probably thought it was the Queens gambit accepted Laughing so not all cheats are annoying; one was both amusing and led me here.

My point is made, so far, with the last posts. 3 of the 4 are full of vitriolic criticisms.  Can ANYONE on this dang site be objective and not so blinded by their own personal beliefs that they can't see the forest because the trees happen to be in the way? Just the sight of me, or any other cheater; just the sound of the words "chess cheater"; just thinking about a chess program, creates this intense hatred in you people that YOU BECOME something that is ACTUALLY WORSE than what you hate. Can you all not see that?

I love this great game more than 99% people on this site. Chess is just another game in the vast realm of games and is no more sacred that any other. No where in the "rules of internet chess" does it say that one cannot use a chess program to cheat another player. Nowhere. Oh, places like ICC will "brand" you a cheat if they catch you. What that basically means is that if several IMs cry like snot-nosed babies to ICC Admin. because they got beat handily, ICC's suspicions are aroused. After all, IMs DONT lose, right? And if they DO lose, it HAS to be a chess cheater. Those are the rules. Just as I can take a "mulligan" in a friendly game of golf if I hit it in the water and get a free do over, I can consult a chess program to give me an advantage.

I have made public several ways to DRASTICALLY reduce cheating on internet chess sites, but the sites refuse to employ them. Cheating is NOT a crime; there is NO penalty; it is NOT forbidden; legitimate play is UNENFORCEABLE. Take your high and mighty ivory-tower ethics and put it to use somewhere that really matters.

I can't believe i am actually reading this, this guy can't play a game of chess on his own ability i'm guessing he really sucks at the game so he has to cheat to stand a chance and he is upset because no one says good game. Give me a break get off this site already.

What amazes me is how people allow themselves to be annoyed by you....
Knightmare111
Erik, are you going to cancel cheater's account for admitting he uses Fritz on here?

This must be some attempt at satire. How, if you’re using basic common sense, does one cheat, and then call the negative reactions of those cheated as un-sportsman like? I don’t care what logic base you use, that makes no sense. I suspect this is his attempt at humor, albeit a weak attempt. As with most class clowns, if you ignore them, or don’t give them the reaction the so desire, they tire and go somewhere else. Possibly he can find some other productive task, like taking money out of the Starbucks tip jar, or grabbing two newspapers instead of one. If it makes you think they’re getting one by on the “system”, go have yourself a good time. What I do find funny is of all the things to be outraged of in this world, online chess is not one of them. Merry Christmas to you Mr. Scrooge.

Knightmare111 this clown doesn't play games here, he just want to stir a bit.

Cheater_1, just shut-up.  We all knows you suck at chess.  You really don't need to keep telling us this over and over again.  The only way you win is by cheating with Fritz.  If cheating at chess is really what you do with your life, then you really lead quite a pathetic life.
cheater_1

Bravo to King William for seeing THE TRUTH and BOO to Knightmare 111 for being so blinded by hate that he cant see the OBVIOUS TRUTH.  I have never ever played one game on this site, or even HINTED that I use Fritz here. Correspondence chess doesn't cut it for me. I need the immediacy of real time chess that POGO, Yahoo, or ICC, etc. provides along with an audience of dozens that I can chat with as I play (i do have an ego). The more people that respond to this post, the more my point will be made. Flamers abound in the chess world. They exist just to spout hate. I suggest you haters take a look in the mirror and reconcile with your hatred.

I firmly believe that when I sit down at my computer and decide to become an 85 year old granny named chesslady1922 and use Fritz to put the hurt on a few dozen people that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with it. Let me break it down for you out there who really despise what I do. Cheating to gain points on my screen name accounts for 0% of why I cheat. Can there be anything MORE worthless than cyber points? (Wow, I got a rating of 3100. Whoop dee doo). Crushing a chess newbie with my Fritz on its highest level accounts for 0% of why I do this (I love a challenge and playing someone who doesn't know a fianchetto from an en passant is like shooting fish in a barrel). Crushing a loud mouth, tough talker, genuine chess master, or another prog accounts for 60% of why I do this (some part of all of us wants to knock the king off the hill or beat the crap out of the school bully, right?) Acting accounts for the other 40%. As I said before, I have a detailed notebook of HUNDREDS of characters I have invented. What a challenge it is to play a 7 year old boy one game and switch to an 85 year old granny the next--and be convincing. I wish I had a chat log of past games I have played--I'd get an Oscar for some of my performances.

It's all about me--as it should be. Chess is WAR. There is NO room for your opponent's feelings. Being a good INTERNET chess player, unfortunately, isn't on my top 10 list of accomplishments. Having fun and bullying the bullies is.

I guess I am entering this fray somewhat late, and on top of that, I never heard of FRITZ (until I read this set of messages).  So please pardon my ignorance, and I hope that my asking two questions will not overly arouse any more anger.  First, was the poor sportsmanship limited to not saying "Good Game", or was there more than that?  I mean, was anybody actually rude to you actively, as opposed to passively?  Because that would seem different from just not saying "Good Game", especially if there were no messages before the end of the game.  Second, when one "cheats", is it free to do so, or does one have to pay for it?  I ask not so that I can join the ranks of the cheaters, but rather to offer a somewhat crazy proposition.  If one must pay to cheat, then maybe this site should do what the govenment does to other vices -- tax it.  That is, get it out in the open, and offer help with moves ON THIS SITE -- but at a price.  First, one would have to pay some nominal fee for the service.  Second, the fact that this was done would be duly noted in the game record.  And third, some portion of the revenue collected therefrom would go to the opponent who so thoroughly confounded the "cheater" that he felt compelled to purchase a move.  Might this work?

Well, I'd kind of like to know why you choose to be an 85 year old grandmother.  Couldn't your twisted little mind think of anything better?  So again why are you talking?

"As I said before, I have a detailed notebook of HUNDREDS of characters I have invented."- Cheater_1

Really?  You are so pathetic.  This is how you spend your life, making false characters all to gain chess points.  You really need to get a life.

"I'd get an Oscar for some of my performances."- Cheater_1

Come on Cheater_1, an Oscar?   Let's try not to be so boastful here.

Lastly, if Im finally getting this life you live, you cheat at chess to beat the bullies who are the top rated players?  That really makes no sense at all considering that most of the top rated players have accepted to play with me when we both have the time.

BTW I really like how you talk like you know so much of the game yet don't play it.

BRAVO lastlink this kid is sick, not that im FULL OF HATRED lol. but come on dude seriuosly? me and link are full of hatred cuz we called you a cheater which i might add your name sugguests! lol power to lastlink!

Ya know, I RARELY, if ever, personally respond to posts or single individual people out, but there are certain times that I MUST. When someone lies or posts something so ASSININE, or asks a question, I must respond. Firstly, thelastlink, you really should read my posts before you spout off. I said that cheating to gain points accounts for 0% of why I cheat, and then you go on to say how pathetic my life is cheating just to gain points. DUH! WAKE UP! I have just proven you to have ZERO credibility. Secondly, Goistein. Ah, I remember when I, too, didn't know what Fritz was. Fritz is generally regarded as one of the strongest chess programs in existence. It's about $40 and is well worth the money. The poor sports that I happened to play didn't just not say "good game" after the game, 50% them insulted me right from the get go, but a few started during the middle game. They "sensed" that my moves weren't legitimate because they were of Grandmaster strength and they were getting thoroughly whooped. They refused to acknowledge their own incompetence (trading a rook for a bishop) so they started up with the insults, offer a draw after every move, asking for a move take back after every move, just to distract me, leaving the game in mid stream and then coming back just before the waiting period expired, etc. Basically just acting like a sore loser because in their mind they were soooooo good that an 85 year old grandmother wouldn't stand a chance. HA!

Giostein, cheating is a free activity. It consists of consulting a chess program for advice on your next move. You too can play at GM strength of 2900. I have already outlined the methods of how to do it and got a reprimand from this site's administration, so I wont go into it here. I'd be happy to privately detail how I accomplish it if you'd like to know. But I must warn you, it's like a drug, once you do it, you will have crossed over to the dark side and there is little chance of coming back. Cheaters are generally regarded as scum, lepers, and not worthy of living. Many people cheat on internet chess sites. And in my decade of cheating I have found out that the loudest, most hateful, "anti-cheaters" are usually the ones that are consulting Fritz or Chessmaster for their next move.

ughhh COME ON Cheater_1 you dont go to a chess web site admit you cheated and down other players. Whats wrong with you? Chess is just for fun and the players you defeated merely wanted to have fun however, you were just there to............well i dont know why you are using fritz but its pointless!

I wish one and all, dear friends, at  chess.com a very merry Christmas!  In this season of yuletide it is good to remember our love-ones.
cheater_1
FREEPAWN, it may seem like I'm trolling just to make people angry, but I'm really not. The guy from post #14 actually had no idea what cheating was. The people I have deafeated NEED to be defeated. As I said, I am very very selective who I want to defeat. I target the tough talkers. I target the bullies. I target the undefeated people. I target the masters. AND I LOVE TO TARGET CHEATERS. The average chess player doesn't have anything to worry about getting cheated by me. I'm kinda like Robin Hood. I have much fun when I play so I completely agree with you that chess is just for fun. As I said many times before, I do play legitimately, without the aid of a computer from time to time. EVERY chess player who strives to be good must have a chess program on his computer--it is the single most valuable thing in the world toward advancing his skill--much better than books or even a personal trainer.
