Should there be an anime about chess?

I don't think chess+anime would be a good combination. At least in pokemon you have theft, exorcism, etc.

Haha, I remember people saying the same thing about a cooking anime.

People (or I should say kids) don't understand that what makes a story interesting isn't fights or romance or whatever. It's what we learn about the characters through these things.

So what could a chess anime have? Easy, you have a character who is down on their luck, and the audience relates to them. We want them to succeed. And with hard work and help from others this person slowly finds success both in their chosen field and in their relationships (whether it be family, friends, or romantic).

I just described one million different stories. Some use ninjas to tell this same story. Or pirates, or zombies, or big robots but these things are decorative. What makes a story interesting is the human element. So you can also use things like cooking or chess to tell these stories.

If there is an anime about chess, it would be the best anime ever!

So for example, the fight at the end of the first Matrix movie was really good.

But then in the next movie the fight at the Chateau was boring.

But why? The Chateau had better special effects, more weapons, more action, more super powers... but it was boring, why?

Because, well first of all because the audience didn't really believe the main character was in any danger of losing... and stakes + consequences are important to any story telling (I mean, you can google this, stakes and consequences in writing). But also because the audience didn't learn anything about the characters (specifically the main character). It was as if the screen writer decided things slow down too much at this point so lets throw in a fight scene.

wait, what Chateau? was it the matrix 2?

Well yes, people moving pieces is very exciting.

Name one of your favorite parts of your favorite anime... and it won't be "I liked when they shot the lasers boom boom!" it will be "I liked when the main character had a very human moment (e.g. deciding not to give up on life in spite of struggles) while some lasers were going boom boom"

Umm, yeah, it's not very memorable. It's pretty boring.

They were trying to get the key guy, and the French dude was trying to keep the key guy because... I think he used him for his criminal enterprise stuff? I don't remember very well.

But the point of the subway fight is sumed up when one of the characters asks Morpheus why Neo isn't running away, and Morpheus says "he's starting to believe."

And that's the whole point of that fight, and what makes it so interesting (that plus the audience has every reason to believe there is 0% chance the main character can win).

Actually, this should be an anime or manga  The title sounds silly (and a bit misleading), but this story is funny. A friend recommended I check this out and now I'm sharing it here xD

Conner:  "I played professional chess at 13"

Also Conner:  @chaddawgva  (1000 blitz rating)

Wait? Is this member the same "Conner" in the video and how do you know that?

Okay fine - just have Team Rocket try to steal chess resources then. Problem solved.

Oh no. Team Rocket? Here to steal our opening books? We need to have a chess battle right now to decide it. Go! 1. e4! Use Quick attack!

I don't know about chess, but there is an excellent anime about the game of Go.

My favourite 👍
