Teaching Chess to kid - can I set wrong mindset

Need suggestion from Masters here.

My Chess.com rapid rating is around 1200. I am an old school, mostly plays on calculations. never sacrificed any piece for positional advantage or knows much theoretical knowledge.

I am teaching chess to my six and half year old son from last couple of months. He is picking up very quickly examples he is already able to solve mate in 2/3 or arabian mate puzzles. I have purchased the chesskids gold membership for him as well.

The question -

can I set any wrong mindset in chess as I am discussing the games with my current understanding. Don't want my son to stuck on middle rating due to incorrect initial training.

Thanks

Glancing at your most recent game, I would say that you certainly understand chess well enough to teach your son.

Teach him what you're able to. As long as he sticks with it, he'll continue to progress at his own rate.

And if he asks something that you don't know, be honest and tell him that you aren't sure, but you can find out. Then you can research the answer together. thumbup
