The day before the tournament!!!

Sort:

Hey guys!!

I am very excited right now! :) there about 19 hours until the chess tournament that I have been preparing for starts. It will be exciting, as:

  • Lots of friends will be there
  • A great oppurtunity for a big rating gain
  • Decent cash prizes!

I have prepared long and hard for this tournament (See my last article for details), and I am pumped up!

For preparation today, I am just going to do a lot of chess tactics on chesstempo.com...

Comment any ideas/opinions, thanks!

Eat well and get lots of sleep.  I'd even recommend not doing any chess related activity at all a few days before a tournament.  This makes you "hungry" for chess during the tournament (easier to stay motivated / avoid burn out at the board).

I will however do ~10 minutes of simple tactic puzzles before the first round to wake up my chess brain so to speak.

Good luck in the tournament, man!

Not any chess-related activity?

It's pretty common advice actually.  Besides with only a few days it's too late to do any useful preparation.  The most you could hope for in terms of good prep is something like seeing the pairings early and getting some opening tips for that specific opponent (either from someone else or by digging through the score sheets and looking at their last round game heh).

I know an IM who goes into complete lockdown mode 2 days before a tournament. For those two days, other than studying chess all day, he only eats and sleeps. And when tournament comes, he wins clear first. I think this is better advice

"Studying chess" ?  Maybe he prepares for his opponents?

But that's interesting, I've never heard of someone who does this.  What's the IM's name?

I do not want to give away the identity; I will just say that he is a very strong player.

Really try to relax and do thing outside chess. When the time arrive your mind should be fresh. Also try to rest between rounds thats very important!
