THE ENPASSANT RULE IS SO DUMB

YOU GET THE ENEMY PAWN TO GO ONE DOWN AND THEN YOU MOVE 2 UP AND THEN THEY KILL YOU????? BRUH

You're rated 200. You cant play chess. What gives you the authority to challenge a rule which has been in place for hundreds of years?

All caps. Uses the word “bruh”. I’m guessing 12 years old?

It’s a rule. Get used to it, sis.

It grows on you...

It's the equalizer. Who said that moving your Pawn two steps was fair?

The best way to stop a bad Pawn with a two-step is a good Pawn with an en-passant.

CrazNoah

the en passant rule is good because it isn't fair when you already went through the trouble to get your pawn there and you get trapped?! THe people created en passant to be immune to being trapped. When chess was first created, you can't move a pawn two sqares. So if they move 1 square, you can capture. But now you can move two squares, and it's just not fair for your pawn to be captured. That's why they made en passant

It prevents easy passed pawns. Having a passed pawn is often the key to winning an endgame and without en passant it’s just too easy to get one.

You just lost a game because of the rule and now you are complaining here, isn't that right?

GGuessMyName

Blame yourself, not the rule.

GGuessMyName

Otherwise you'll never improve.

If you allow pawns to move two squares then en passant is necessary. If you are arguing that pawns should only be allowed to move one square I will take you more seriously.

I am very sorry for you to feel that way.
I see you are not high ranked, me neither. I must say I love chess very much and I wont give up just yet.
I made new resolution for 2021 and I will make baby steps and I reccomend you to do the same.
Play everything on daily basis and in between some games vs CPU.

It can be a game changer. En Passant should be taught earlier.

LeeEuler

It would be interesting to play a game without castling where the pawns only move one square, and where the king must be captured to end the game (to avoid stalemate). I wonder how much of an effect it would have on the game

EscherehcsE

The OP is currently complaining about en passant over in the stalemate thread, lol...

canadian_rt

If you don't like it then stop moving your pawns two squares...

ParkerBettinson

Completely fair rule.

ParkerBettinson

Not much more to say beyond that.

brianchesscake

The people who complain about en passant are the same idiots saying that draws are boring. Well guess what - without the en passant rule there would be MORE draws. It was designed to prevent the board from being locked up with pawns!

snoozyman

Enpassant makes sense.
