What is the average time per move?

how long is a string?

Thanks Knighty, I was trying to figure out the time settings here. When I saw that the minimum was one day, I thought that had to be wrong but I guess its not. No offense to anyone, but I have no interest in such protracted play.

Calling names already...  You know, being new does not prevent you from actually saying what you are trying to figure out, instead of asking a question that had as much context as the "how long is a string" one.
Had you asked for advice on "hey I noticed the minimum time per move is 1 day, is that really the case?", you would have gotten a decent answer!

I was having a bad day. Apologies all around, I have deleted the offensive part of the post. Can I start over?

I think that the setting for 1 day is designed for people who work and have other activities.  It is the minimum.  I generally set my games for 5 days.  Sometimes at the request of others it will be at 3 days.  This is an online variation of the old fashion chess by snail mail.  I never played snail mail.  I enjoy playing chess online.  Even though I play 5 days games, I usually play the game much like an over the board face to face game.  I make my moves as soon as possible unless I am in a bind where it requires more thought and study.  Sometimes even though it is a 5 day game it is played in one setting.  I am personally glad that Erik and the staff designed this site because I had no one locally to play with.  Now I play chess at all hours and with people all over the world.  Thanks www.chess.com

I am glad I found this site. I probably won't be playing chess here but there's other activities here that I like....puzzles and history for instance. Hey Jedimaster, you ever play at yahoo? In the past 6 years I have played thousands of games. When you play someone at 3-5 days per move, how do you know if there not using a computer?
