Haven't seen this but I am curious too.
When I uploaded it via mobile app I had this problem but uploading via PC worked correctly. I guess you just have to upload via PC rather than mobile.
u mean like mine?
Yours is black in both light and dark mode, so it is not transparent.
"Transparent" basically means the background doesn't exist. It's not white or black because it's not anything. For example @marron_market (the user above you) has a pfp that has a dark background in dark mode and a light background in light mode.

How do you get a transparent one tho
Full solution: A transparent image must be a PNG file (image.png). You can find one by adding "transparent" to your browser search. Sometimes the image you copy will have an improperly implemented transparency (when you view the PNG file the background will be checkered). You can fix this yourself with image editing software or you can find another image with proper transparency.
Once you have a transparent PNG file head to the chess.com website on a PC and login (uploading a transparent PNG does not work on mobile devices (at least IOS from what I know)). Go to your settings (cogwheel on bottom left of page). Once there click the change button that appears on your profile picture. Select and upload your transparent PNG from your file explorer.
Hope this clears up any and all questions. gg
I've noticed players who have transparent or cut out profile images. I tried cutting out an image and uploading the png but it still shows up with a square white background
How do i create transparent cut out png profile images?
