I’m confused how that’s a brilliant move when the queen is guarding

Mate in 2 because bishop f3 then queen to g5 king is blocked in by all his pieces and the bishop cuts off all his remaining escape options. This sacrifice also forces the opponent into the situation of weakening his kings position if he finds the right moves out. Well played rileejefferson! grin.png

Although this is not on a real game

A good move

What does it take? I have made some clutch sacrifices and moves an I have never made a brilliant move!! It only counts it as great or best.

Play a brilliant move.

What do you think I have been trying to do?

I though they were pretty common? I’ve had 4 in a game, and usually have 1 every three games, usually with 1-2 great moves per game. Do you guys think it’s elo dependent? Like you’re awarded brilliancies at a lower rating easier?
Ash03053
Not pretty common I guess but more common than once a year lol. Are you analyzing all your games?
Ash03053
You apparently have to sacrifice material beyond what a player your rating would naturally play as their average good move

I think that chess.com gives you mor brilliants when you are higher than lower, even if you copy the same moves.

I analyse all my games and no brilliant moves.

In order to have brilliant move you must have brilliant thinking.

brilliant move=sound sacrifice

That’s not brilliant. Rook takes rook with check and then take the knight with an attack on the queen.

There are so many brilliant moves. In fact my opening system counts already 3 or 4 in standard variations. Most of them are knight sacrifices which create a discovered bishop attack.

And if you get to play Bxd6 Qxd6 then the queen is hanging, and Nxc4 dxc4 can lead to Bxh7+ and the free queen Qxd6. Such tactics are common in London/Jobava-esque openings. Jobava beat Shankland brilliantly with that back in 2014.

Brilliant moves are often unexpected ones that involve a piece sacrifice that result in gains down the line. So you have to look both far and deep to find them.
Anyway here's a few examples of my repository:

Nxg7 is brilliant here:

And here black cannot take because the rook lift is unstoppable:

This was a nice one:

This rook sac is thematic in Sicilians like Najdorf, Scheveningen, or in this case: Lowenthal.
