What would be the average rating for a 13 year old

The_Ghostess_Lola

100 Elo rating points per years old to be considered a talent. So, 1300 for a 13 year old. 1800 for an 18 year old. 2400 for a 24 year old....if you're trying to make a name for yourself in chess.

Fischer won his title at 29 (?) with a 2800 rating. Monster is waaaayyyy ahead of his time with 2800++ at age 23 (?)....

If you can progress like this, by age 28 you may be our next World Champion !....Think balloons, confetti, accolades, and how proud your mom and dad will be !

p.s. Try to get to 1300 before your 14th Birthday....You can do it !....Smile....

My target for end of year: 1500

I am not sure that this linear progression is typical at all. I think it would be very difficult to identify a single 2500 player who was only 2000 at age 20.

InDetention

Well,Im 9 years old,my CFC rating being 1120,USCF 1449,Northwest chess 1675,chesscube rating average 1822,and my Victoria chess club rating 1765.

P.S,The '100 points per year would NOT work. Example:im 80 years old! My rating is 8000!

Good point about being 80!

InDetention is very strong for 9 years old, with a 1449 USCF, is just outside the top 100 for the U.S..

TheRealPhoenix

i saw the 100 points per year at some chess website

It said if 100 points per year then you should be playing at state level

The_Ghostess_Lola

Sorry....Embarassed....the limits are to about 2800....

The_Ghostess_Lola

Yes, the linear progression is far from exact, but to be a real talent, if you're playing 2000 at age 20 ?....then you're not a name-noticing real talent....but you're pretty good....Smile....

blueemu

So... at 57 years old, I should be rated 5700?

... I'm a failure... Cry

The_Ghostess_Lola

There's a regression point somewhere....let's see....hmmm....lemme make one up !....Smile....gimme a few minutes here....

The_Ghostess_Lola

....and no, you're far from a failure bluebird....I've been over a few of your games....crafty to say the least....

The_Ghostess_Lola

I think a loss of 15 Elo points per year after age 35 should be about right my darlings....Smile....but this is only in top-flight chess now....

Hawksteinman

Can u see my games and analyse them?

It's in the topic I'm about to create: Analyse my games, please!'

The_Ghostess_Lola

I know linear progression / regression is loose....but hey, introducing an asymptote seems a bit much....don't you think ?

The_Ghostess_Lola

When I see your name I think of one of my favorite old classic songs "Please Let Me Wonder"....Smile....absolutely beautiful melody....ahhh....

.....and congratulations on your compliment plmw !....

Here is the equation for getting your ideal rating from your age:

(Age x 40) + (300 x amount of z's, j's, or v's in your last name) + (amount of hours studied x 0.5)

Mind blowing. I got 780, but my real rating is 1900 OTB. That must mean I'm highly overrated

LOL, or the formula is completely innacurate

I'm 13, and I am 1100 Live Chess(I play mostly just 5|0), only better in Online (1400) because I only play my even worse 13 year old friends. (No offense Nathan and Jonathan).

DjonniDerevnja

100 points a year, I am 52, so if I got 5200 that would be ok.

I think that 1400-1500 rating reflects a strong player on the way up, and he or she have done some good work.

With more good work, rating gets higher.

I dont think age is important, but time with chess is. A 9 year old that have played for three years can have the same strenght as a 13 year old and a 52 year old that also have played for three years.

No 13-year olds have been playing for 14 years, so they will not match a 27 year old that have played for 14 years considered the same talent and effort.

That's the secret of winning chess: if you lose to a 14-year-old, play a 13-year-old next time.
