Who will first reach 3000 FIDE rating?
Magnus said himself that getting to 2900 was a half attainable goal. So he doesnt ever think he'll get to 3000
What if, (I am speculating here) the rating pool is flooded with a lot of GMs (not Super GMs)? Maybe then someone like Carlsen will have a chance. Correct me if I am wrong.
This is incorrect, If he plays someone a lot lower rated he wont gain any rating points.
@nyku13 is correct. If you change the pool then it changes people's relative position.
Introducing more "weak" players will always push the #1 player higher.
Everyone (including you and me) has performance results that are many 100s of points higher than their rating. It doesn't mean they're actually at that rating.
kasprov or anand
First of all Kasprov retired second vishy in the world ranking is barely in the top 20's!

I guess he will have to keep winning consistently for that to happen, right?
I think the first person to reach 3000 doesn't even have a name yet. The best player in the world currently has peaked, and might even stay at that peak for a while, but to reach 3000 is a huge jump.

More realistically it wont happen for at least 50 years.
Elo is not playing strength. If the pool population changes it might be easy or it will never be reached.
one year later, magnus hasn't gotten 2900.... i doubt magnus will even get 2900 in his career. I think you will have to wait a generation or two.
the last time the forums raised a dead horse it turned into a llama
And before that, the horse was many things. Few remember my original form.

That's a little embarrassing... I'm wrong to say that.
But also nyku is right that Carlsen (or any #1 player) would have a more accurate rating if there were more people near their skill level.
IMO he'll just grasp 2900 and stay around there, if he keeps the current performance, he should get up to 2960-2980 roughly speaking but I really doubt he can pull that off.
yeah i agree
