Discuss here about why do you like chess?

I like chess because It's cool, entertaining and it help's you to get more smarter, I meeted chess when my grandfather comed to Puerto Rico to visit me, he showed me chess, but I didn't understand clearly, then one day, when I was in school a friend taught me chess and I love it!

Why? It's simply absorbing. You either love it as we do or hate as some of my friends do. They donot want do have any exercise for brains. But even those who disagreed with me have started playing chess (they call it passing time- but won't admit they are also starting to love it)

Chess builds critical thinking and prediction skills; if you can predict and prepare for your opponant's moves on a chessboard, you can apply those skills to socialization and daily life.

Well that's just what the fancy shmancy psycologists say...

I personally like chess because of the satisfaction I get when a plan comes together... or I can make an advantage out of a complicated position; it's just really satisfying.

Chess is in certain ways more than just a game. You can learn about yourself and how you handle adversity, how to think in long term goals, or when to switch into immediate mode based on what is happening in a game.

There is a beauty to the game and symmetry that other games lack. For example, I might think I am pretty good at say basketball then try out for the NBA and get dunked over by the worst player in the  league.

With chess, it is possible to anyone to play anyone else and still win regardless of the fact that someone might have more experience than you do or have a better understanding of the game. So long as you play good, solid moves, you always have a chance to win regardless.

Can not say that about other things in life. Every one is equal when the match starts and only by making good choices while avoiding the pitfalls can the match be decided; it is not decided simply because some one has better physical gifts than you do.

That is true!

It is the game of kings, and I will leave it at that for I would be here all day describing the joys and how chess is helpful to you.

Chess is pure skill against skill. Your success does not depend on a "draw of the cards" or "roll of the dice".

Why Not play?  Chess is fun, cool, awsome, and it improves one's thinking abilities. Non chess players have a misconception that you are a lame if you play chess, well I consider you a lame if you don't play chess.Cool

It's awesome. Simple as that. I want to get as good as possilbe, because it's fun and builds self-esteem (and I need that). Other than that, chess is just plain fun.

Because when you are post-18, girls crave for smart men. Who said something about chess.com becoming an on-line dating service? =P

Seriously, because my dad tought me chess when I must have been 5, then, when I was 7, a friend invited me to his chess club and shortly after I started playing tournaments and etc.

Now, why do I love chess? Because I love using strategy and battle it out with opponents. Beating one in chess is like outsmarting him or her; guess I'm kind of proud. Also, chess is the most complete of all boards game: knowledge (oppennings), strategy (weigh various factors like time, space, power -pieces' values).

This one is indeed one of my main reasons. In chess no one can give you the "you were lucky" line, since luck has nothing to do with it. Whenever you win you'll be certain you deserve it and when you loose just the same. There aren't many other games out there as fair as this one.

The other reason is the "epic mind battle" feel I get when playing. Chess is maybe the most civilized form of human competition and still one of the most brutal. I just love that.

Why chess? You learn something new every day if you play it enough and it is a gymnasium for the mind. That's the Reader's Digest condensed. ;)

I love competition. The better I get the more games I win and the more enjoyable it becomes. I am in my 40s and would like to become an expert by the time I retire so I can play in the park all day.

I love chess because it stimulates my brain to think of genius ideas to win.

CJKSuperCoder

Because it is so fun and never gets old! Also, you always learn more things about the game!

Vlandian_Knight

When you play well, you feel like a genius.

When you play terribly, you feel like a complete idiot.

Hey, at least you feel something.

Yeah it is a solid retirement plan. Cheap as well, unless you want to hoard rare sets.
