Why I play worse in offline chess but good in online why

Sort:
KnightWhoSaysNih

I'm the opposite.

I'm better OTB than I am online

Offline games can feel more serious due to the physical presence of your opponent and the competitive atmosphere.

So this is why Magnus is 400 points lower rated in OTB than on chess.com?

ChatGPT fails again.

He says "offline" which mean OTB, I think.

That's what I say.

Chess.com ratings are higher for every player than OTB ratings. That has absolutely nothing to do with the "competitive atmosphere" and such nonsense, otherwise it would affect different players very differently. What ChatGPTOfficial said is just complete nonsense.

MY FIDE IS 1700 (300) LOWER THAN MY CHESS.COM

That's about normal. Chess.com ratings are a bit inflated, the best players are 3300+ on chess.com.

A lot inflated. There's a big difference between 1700 and 2000 when measured by the numbers of players achieving it. Much more difference than between 1400 and 1700.

How do you know the exact distribution of ratings on chess.com?

Yes, a lot of mainly online players can't handle otb play but by the same token, many otb players can't handle online. The probability is that you will meet better players otb than online and so you improve faster and further.

By playing at different levels and comparing abilities of opponents, I suppose. The word "exact" isn't applicable, though.

Even if that's true, it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic discussed.

The bots are a bit of a giveaway. I've been playing a lot of game against Li bot, as black. It's supposed to be 2000 but it's easy to see it's more like 1400 and I suspect they may rate their bots by rrerencing them against online chess.com players, which would explain it.

Well what do you expect if you can't understand what I write and why so you don't know why something's written and then you get all passive aggressive and critical? The trick is to try to work out what the relevance is, if you don't understand right away. Anyway, Happy New Year.

EpicQuestGamer

probably because you where playing against a crazy smart bot or everyone just sucks like me😢

Dude, what you wrote has absolutely no relevance, and it mostly isn't true anyway. Everybody is higher rated on chess.com than on OTB, and not just a little bit, but by hundreds of points. That's just how those rating systems work.

That doesnt mean you play worse, thats just means chess.com rating is usually higher than Fide rating.
