Will you be playing chess this weekend?

I would love to play.  I haven't found someone to play with.  That's why I like this website.  I can play chess and still do other activities.

I am :) Have a friend coming over sunday, and we always end up having a game :)

Same for me, this site is the only chance I have to play.

no, unless i play one of the programs on my dedicated chess computer. Seems like chess players are spread out a bit, maybe we should form our own country.

I'm in. What should we call our new country?

I have almost the same problem as Glodek.  None of my friends play chess very often, so when I do play them, I easily cream them, and I'm not even that good.  My brother only plays chess occasionally, but he creams me when he does.  Since I don't have a driver's license, I can't go to any chess clubs.  I've probably played more games on this site in the month since I've joined than I've played on an actual board for the past year.

Isn't there a city called Queens?  Maybe we should move half the chess players in the world there, then form another city called Kings and move the other half there.Smile

I used to play on line or against the computer, but the last 6 months I joined the State University's Professors College Chess Club. We meet every wednesday night(from 6 pm). We are getting ready for the annual University tournament in February. Also I met there an old friend and we are playing 2-3 times a week, including weekends.

I will not be, sadly.
I might have time for a 60 0 online game though.

same situation here, if it wasnt for here, i wouldnt get a game.....

Your joking, there are loads of clubs in Staffordshire, you may even play me one day. We have a team entered in the Wolverhampton league and i'm pretty sure Tamworth have too. Check the ECF ( English chess federation ) website on Google for details of your local club, it beats staring at a monitor all day.

Im glad you've started this topic Erik. I've noticed a lot of people who have posted, moaning that they've got no one to play against at over the board chess. Most of the clubs in Shropshire are dying through lack of interest, so i would imagine its the same everywhere. It was the same with football in the 80's with the don't go to the game , watch it on TV mentality. So come on folks, stop whinging that your not good enough, etc... Go and support your local chess club, you're more than welcome and your most certainly needed, and it's a cheap night out.

I might just do that jona004. None of my girlfriends play chess, all think I'm crazy to want to, and the boys I know that play? They stare at my bits, instead of the board! So no I'll be playing on line.
Queenie
Mind you Jona004, some of the guys I play on here want to know about my bits too. Can't imagine why, or what my bits are like have to do with the game. I wonder do other girls find this to be so as well?

Nope. I'm not ready to play humans just yet. Besides, there is no one to play with around here this weekend (both local chess clubs are closed.) It's Yom Kippur... i.e. the big one.

That should give you an advantage in the game, since they're distracted. It's called the Wonder Bra Defense. And no, I didn't make that up. Believe it or not, that came from an actual chess tournament news story from a few years ago.

There was some middle aged guy that lost the final game of a championship chess tournament (I think it was a regional championship in Australia, but I could be remembering wrong) to an attractive woman in her 20's. He complained afterwards that her clothes were too skimpy, so he had trouble concentrating because her breasts were a distraction. Needless to say, everyone who reported the story ridiculed the loser endlessly, and one of the stories coined the term "Wonder Bra Defense".

I'll play and most likely win cause I usually play my dad or sister, If it weren't for a new opening I learned, I would be bored playing my dad

I wouldn't mind losing games that way. :)

I am not a member of a club and play all my games on the internet. I  have played only 2 over-the board games in the last 20 years with a clock.

Over the weekend, the county chess congress held a tournament in my town so i played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The competition was split into three categories, under 120ecf(MINOR), under 150(MAJOR) (English chess federation rating), and open.

Based on my internet rating i ended up in the middle group, the Major, with all the other competitors being club players!

The three decisive games i played ended as follows: first game-blunder-lost, second game-mistake,had a chance to get a result but-lost, third game-in control-won!

Scored 2/5 points. I found that not being accustomed to board play, clocks with limited time and entering moves on a scorecard was a disadvantage but playing numerous games on internet sites had improved my play.

Probably best to join a club but the internet has its benefits.
