Analysis is laggy

Sort:
Kama_94

Hi, I've tried googling and unfortunately haven't yet found a solution.

When I analyze my games here (self-analysis, not game review), it is very slow and laggy. When I navigate back and forth through the moves, the pieces are moving in stop-motion.

This does not happen on the mobile app, nor does it happen with the analysis board over on Lichess. My PC isn't exactly the newest (I'm not sure which specs would be relevant here, tbh) but if it was a hardware issue, I'd assume that Lichess would be giving me trouble as well.

Does anyone else encounter this or know how to resolve it? I don't want to have to spread over multiple websites.

Hey! I'd like to recommend running through some basic troubleshooting steps to start.

1️⃣ First, would you mind making sure you're on the latest version of your browser? If not, please update.

2️⃣ If you haven't done it yet, would you mind clearing your cache and cookies in your browser? Here you can find more information about how to do it.

3️⃣ If the issue persists, would you mind trying using Incognito Mode? Just gauging if there are any extensions that could be affecting performance.

If the issue persists after the 3 items above. Please reach out to our Support channels by visiting www.chess.com/support. Feel free to mention that you have already done these troubleshooting steps and get to talk with an agent.

  • We shall try to find a way to have the feature running as smooth as possible on your device.

I have the same issue. I experimented, and at least in my case, the culprit is the "Move Feedback" feature of the analysis. When it is on, a single move on the analysis board can take upwards of 10 seconds to complete, with laggy slide show motion of the pieces, etc. Fwiw my computer brand new and very high spec, so this is not a case of a laggy PC.

As soon as I turned off Move Feedback (from the three dots next to the analysis toggle), the board was snappy and normal again.

Thanks for sharing! I'll address this specifically with you. Reaching out.

For the others, please keep in mind:

  • If you have Move Feedback activated, the engine needs to calculate the line first, and then share the evaluation of the move. This will naturally take time.
  • This time will also depend on what is the engine you're using and, especially, what is the Maximum Time. Why? Because longer times will calculate deeper lines, which might delay the presentation of the move feedback.

Hope this helps! Side note: why doesn't it happen on Game Review? Because it is calculated beforehand when you load it. 😉

Late response from me, but I was able to fix my issue by clearing the chache.

The analysis time itself hasn't been a problem for me, it was just that moving the pieces was very laggy/choppy while the analysis was happening. Clearing cache has fixed this for me.

Cheers! Cache seems like a good bad on those visual buggers. Thanks for letting us know.

Here are 2 videos showing how laggy it is with move feedback. Replaying the moves is slow, and animation falls behind when dragging the pieces around.

I am using Firefox with a fresh cache and the latest version. The behaviour is the same for Incognito Mode. I am happy to assist with testing.
