Correct yes 👍
How do you know if u are muted
The text box that you used to type your post would not be there and instead you get a message from chess.com that your account has been disabled from chat.
All answers imply this is a binary switch, but aren't there like a dozen layers here? for example, during a game, isn't there an admin setting that makes it say chat disabled to the other player, but I can chat all day long and they won't even get a notification? That's one example but another is a setting that makes your challenges take like 10 minutes to be visible to other players.
It's sorta like the covid, even if you have it, you may not know it. If you don't do anything or have anything that indicates you are muted, you may never know. Also like covid, it takes independent verification from someone other than yourself to know for sure if it's there.
You get a message via your PM, saying that you have been muted for the following reason.
I'm assuming that's something you would have to check to know for sure. If you don't check those, or you don't sign on for a few days, is there another way to find out without asking?
I thought I was partially muted so i sent an email to customer service. Their reply implied that I was. They claimed to restore my account. A week later I had a different yet similar issue. Then I month later I had both issues. When I asked what I did wrong they give vague answers feigning surprise and did the "I'll reply to a question you didn't ask instead of your actual questions" trick.
Checking to see if I've been muted thanks.
I can see your post, why would you be muted?
You get a message and your response window is missing. Also any attempts at an original post are denied as "spam". Chess.com is wasting money to pay useless mods who keep productive players/posters off this site -(
Mods don't get paid
But if a member is muted by a mod or staff, it was for a breach of Community Policies.
Mods are receiving some payment in addition to an outlet for their hypocrisy, whether it's an actual check, free memberships, etc.
If those "community policies" cannot be specifically stated, they mean nothing.
Yes, there is a free membership, which comes out to essentially nothing for the time spent.
As to being stated, they are, in multiple places. The more important things:
https://www.chess.com/legal/user-agreement
https://www.chess.com/legal/community
You call it "time spent" when I've demonstrated how it's wasted in many cases and even harmful. I'm not saying you haven't tried to be helpful at times Martin, but the overall mod function would be far better if curtailed significantly if not removed outright.
Giving a list and not specifically saying which and why is pointless and can excuse a variety of errors when silencing unwanted opinions.
Members aren't muted for unpopular or unwanted opinions. And you're certainly free to the opinion that the site would be better without moderators. It's certainly not correct and things would be really bad without them.
Let's find out by sending the mods on a long holiday! If the members beg for their return, you will be proven correct. If they notice no difference or even improvement (which I say is likely), then we can work on the next problem here (lag). These "sky will fall" scare tactics suggest you know the actual worth of forum moderators and will say anything to keep others from learning it.
You can suggest that to staff, but I can pretty much guarantee that's not going to happen.
I already know the benefit when I get on the site when there hasn't been forum mod coverage for a few hours and there's a ton of topics to clean up. The vast majority of regular member would be perfectly fine without moderators available but those that get modded would have a field day with it.
When 6 moderators drag you into a room and do THIS to you.........that's when you know you're muted. I know because it happened to me.........and I liked it.
Let us decide what needs to be "cleaned up". If I want to ignore a member, that's my choice (I almost never do except someone REALLY nasty). There is no good form of censorship.
That's not the way most forums work, especially if they are part of a company or organization. They're going to moderate topics with community moderators or staff
