How to disable the click to move function?

Sort:
MM1993

The unwanted selecting and clicking has made me lose many games and it's really frustrating; for instance when I drag a piece and drop it back on its place, it becomes highlighted and any random click on the board can unwantedly move the piece. Is there a way to choose between the two functions and disable one of them?

VibrantMoves

Start dragging the pieces on an analysis board in Live Chess. That'll take care of your issue. You can't disable either of the two functions coz some players prefer to use click to move.

I have this same issue too and a twitchy index finger that loses me games, I want to disable click-to-move.

You can't, both methods will always work.

FREELO_REEEEEEEE

So after 6 years chess.com still won't allow players to disable this featuer?

FeelGoodAlways

jesus please allow a selection of the two

Yeah this literally just lost me a game. This has to be a SUPER easy fix. Come on Chess.com, figure it out.

agreed lost 3 games to this I mean I suck as it is don't need simple stuff like this making me lose tbh the game is complicated enough as it is, controls should be the easy part imo

4 blunders in 2 games because of that.

why even give us the ability to choose which method we wanna move our pieces in the settings when both will always bloody work ?

Please, add an option to disable either of the two. I just lost 4 games in a row because it subconsciously irritates me how the piece stays highlighted after you pick it up but don't do a move so I automatically click randomly to make it go away and it moves the piece.

Guys stop sending notifications 😅. It's been six years already since I posted this; obviously they don't give a hoot about it.

It's a hot topic let's get this to the top who knows they might actually pay attention^^

Please for the love of god let us disable click to move.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue, but sad that it's been so long and still not solved. I subconsciously click on the pieces I'm thinking of moving, and if those pieces happen to be a king and a rook, I accidentally castle. If I wanted to castle with click to move, I should be clicking on the spot my king will be after castling, not the rook.

Fun fact, [another site -- VP] has this option

hahalul

[another site -- VP]: Free analysis, Click to move, Drag selection, more responsive

chess.com: we leave both options in because some Karens are too dumb to choose between them

KingHeretic

Clueless responses and ignoring from chess.com. We want to disable this because it causes accidental moves. In no other chess site I've played on, am I forced to allow the UI to make moves for me when I click on an empty square. It causes accidental moves.

Go play on [another site -- VP] the user interface is much cleaner and better.

A post from 2014 about such a simple thing.... Does Chess.com not care about their users? Guess playing on [another site -- VP] is the solution?
