I can't message my friend. Why? I can see him in my friend list. But i can't see him in my message list.

If you have never messaged them they won't show there. If they're muted the messages won't show

If they are normally active in the forums and you can't find any of their content then they are muted. If if the have any activity listed in their profile and you can't view it
