I didn't abandon the game but I lost and my rating went down.

Maybe worth checking out things on the link, hopefully it won't happen again for you.

Thanks

I just had a game get abandoned several moves in for no obvious reason. Game doesn’t appear in my list of completed games. My rating didn’t change as a result.

Using browser not app.

Hey all,

Yes there was a system restart today so apologies for what's happened. All is back up and working now and hopefully you won't get the same issues.

Thanks for letting us know.

I play unrated because I have lost several games "abandoned" when I never abandoned the game. One just now within a few seconds of making a sequence of moves with my opponent and myself responding to each move within a few seconds.  Makes no sense. (FWIW I have an excellent internet connection).

I have suspected for some time that some folks have some kind of a gaming hack that allows them to bail from a game that they don't particularly like and still log a win.

This keeps happening to me. Chess.com says that I have abandoned several games, when I didn't. In some games I was in the better position.

This happened to me again tonight. Same as last night. Chess.com said that I abandoned a game, and I was doing well in it. I didn't abandon.

chessterchief

laenceerchaens, was this in the opening? it automatically abandons if you don't move in a minute.

Rocknets

No. The last two times were well into the game and I was at an advantage.

You likely got disconnected from the Live server process.

And again today. Just now. There really should be a report button for this.😕

Not to be completely snarky, but some websites just shut down public access for 10-30 minutes. I'd much rather wait than waste that same amount of time playing only to "lose" because of a server dropout.

And would it kill someone to install adware that doesn't interfere with typing?

...

One option could be just not allow new games to play until all other games complete, but there could be a long time control game going on, which would extend the downtime. Or events happening.

The site is working on a more distributed live server process, so that theoretically would allow them to bleed games off servers only allow new games on already updated servers to minimize downtime. I don't know if they are planning that, architecturally, but it likely would become possible.

Just happened to me again... playing a game.  Every move taken within a few seconds and no connection issues whatsoever. It was obvious both players were on good low latency connections.

Suddenly I get a popup at move 14:  "White Won ... Game Abandoned"

WTF!!! Why I'll never play rated games on this software - there seems to be some hack out there that some people use when they don't like a position.

I hate 1000 rated unbeatable players.

There isn't a hack. Clients never directly connect and your opponent can't impact your connection.

I regularly play chess on the bus on the way to work. There is a patch where I lose connection for about a minute, but it reconnects and the game continues. One day last week the timer said I still had a minute left to reconnect, then it did reconnect, and immediately it said I'd abandoned the match. I assume it's a bug rather than anything my opponent did.

I just lost a blitz game while I had 1:15 left on my clock. I was playing an openning I didn't remember the move and I had to think a litle bit and I suddently lost.

This issue still persists. It happened to me yesterday.

While during playing I waited for other player to make a move and suddenly I lost the game because they said I abandoned the game, but I was waiting the whole time.  I lost so many games this way.  Someone figured out how to cheat. and used it all the times.

I think it's just chess.com getting lazy or they created this for players who aren't paying them enough monies. I have been experiencing these issues as of recent. I back out to check a message really quick or this time I needed to check my bus route stop. Literally just took Me a couple seconds to switch to Google maps to see my stop and come back and it said I abandoned the match. I am aware if a countdown but that is minimal 30 seconds before abandoning on a 5 minute blitz match.
