Printing the current position looks lousy
Erik,
I started replying to your note and then realized that I was just guessing - so I looked deeper. A simple test of printing the board background (http://static.chess.com/images/loadboard45.gif) worked fine so I played with it a bit more. And then even some more... for about 2 hours. I put up the result (for only the white pieces and only 'a' to 'Z' board positions) at http://dev.johnbaylor.org/lBZJgv5Q (or lBgvcDmukAbsAJfmDwdrsJrJwRR) and it prints much better but the PNG pieces still print out mostly black. You probably need some additional piece images (such as "wrw" and "wrb" for white rook on a white or black background). Hope this helps - it was a fun exercise.
P.S. - you can view the Ruby source at http://dev.johnbaylor.org/view_source
I was in a tricky position and was about to be away from the computer for a few hours, so I printed the current page. The colors on the board were non-existent and the black pieces were hard to decipher. A "printable view" link would be nice.
And I understand the issues involved and its a minor pain to put together, so prioritize it downward as you see fit.
thanks!
