The " Garry is ANGRY " banner

I don't know if it's just me , but I am finding the banner highly annoying . Now I went to the Chess mentor and did 2 lessons , yet Garry is still angry at me :( . What can I do to make him happy , and consequently remove the banner ?

I was thinking the same thing.  I don't mind the ads, I'd just like a little variation.  Having Kasparov give me the old stink eye isn't my favorite.

Another thought, how can you be crushed lightly?

I realize that everyone feels that to some degree those banners are annoying. They don't really bother me though. I mean, this was posted in another thread...the one about Reservesmonkey leaving, but they ARE chess related right? For the people who created this site, there is a cost associated to keeping it up. These guys have to get the money somehow. It's not like we're paying them. Since it's free it's not so bad is it? I actually find it more funny then anything else. Come on...who hasn't chuckled the first time they saw "Gary is upset". I'm sure that in the near future there will be an option to avoid the banners, but meanwhile...are they really that bad?

I agree that chess.com needs money, but I also agree that some of the ads are distasteful.

They certainly aren't meant to appeal to my rationality...

I don't mind the banners , I just think maybe a bit more variety would be better

They got your attention, so the ad was successful!

Well thank the forces that be that the adverts on this site aren't the ones that start playing audio when the site loads, or a popup that's in the screen as you scroll around. I hardly notice the ads frankly.

As I said in another thread, the Kasparov picture reminds me of someone else with a "killer stare"-Tal the Terrible. Same pose and everything!

Are we really going to nitpick about ads on a FREE site?  Honestly, of all the things to complain about...
erik

if you don't like the ads, feel free to make some new ones and send them to me :) i made them in about 11 minutes tops and posted them in a hurry so i could get back to working on live chess and other free features that i provide at no cost to people who don't like the fact that we have 1 ad on a page for the one product we actually charge money for.

if you think websites are free to build and operate, think again. :D

Chill Erik, we really don't want that mastermind of yours to overheat. You just keep doing what you do.:-)

Fortunately I'm easily entertained and people being cross and glaring at me I've learned to find entertaining. I like the ad.

Wow?! I'm pretty new to this site.  I thought we were coming on here to relax and enjoy a game of chess with people who actually like the game.  I didn't realize that there are sooooooooo many angry chess players out there.  Kinda disappointing.  Please try to be lovers.  Thanks.

Pigsfly, I assure you that this community is is generally very good. Much better than most of the other chess sites out there. (e.g. Yahoo chess *shudders*)

I think the ads are fine and this site is by far the best chess site I've found and I've tried quite a few.

Wow. I may have to friend this member. We are kindred spirits. Game, yes, game. It's a game. Banners are not evil. They're just banners. Just scroll down. If you don't like the banners, send Erik money.

Erik: you should add a PayPal link for donations. Seriously. AND keep the banners.

King_William
If Erik is sponsoring the sponsors, there's a big screw loose somewhere!!! Surprised

I don't know about the rest of you guys and gals, but the Garry ad is rather flattering.  Think about it- Garry is locked away in prison, and he still has time to be concerned about our studying Chess.  Pretty high compliment from the greatest player of this game.  (After Morphy of course.)

What if I would rather not make him happy?
Make him suffer, take up checkers

Ray_Brooks
Garry has been constantly angry since about 1983. So, no change there then! Tongue out
