Three-time repetition

Hello, I think three-time repetiotion of posiotion does not work for a draw.

Take this game for example : http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=715631

sho' 'nuff.

Is triple rep meant to be automatically detected, or must one side demand the draw?

malcho
must be automatically detected I think, cause there is no referee to each game :)

When the position has been repeated 3 times, the 'offer draw' button turns to a 'claim draw' button.

I noticed in a game I just finished that the site does not automatically detect perpetual check. It was easy to repeat a position 3 times (and I claimed a draw), but I can imagine positions where this might not be so easy.

this is correct - you must claim it. it is not automatic. those are the rules of chess.

It most certainly does work:

ok , I'll turn the offer draw button, but if the other player reject? ... or maybe you mean that only the function of the "offer draw" button becomes "claim draw" , cause I thought the name of the button also changes!

What about a perpetual check situation? My opponent currently cannot mate me, but can keep me in check. I have offered a draw several times, but he refuses to accept as his rating is MUCH higher than mine and he will lose a lot of points.

first to say about the "claim draw " -button, I just had another game in which there was tree-time repetition, and there the button becomes "claim" draw, but in the first game obviously there was some bug becouse it did not happened so,and I offered a draw, luckily my opponent agreed.  Now for the perpetual check, I think if the position is clear to be a draw, even though there are differences in material, there should be some possibility to claim draw too, I remember rule that says if after 40 moves the position hasn't changed,or some exchanges haven't happened- it is plain draw. So EEShelton, I think your game is draw. You may post a link to your game here so everyone can see your game .

bye for now

hmm. he should be able to claim that as a draw as well...
