Tracking Postings

I was wondering why in Chess.com you have to tick the 'track' box when you post a message in order for you to see that there has been new postings and replys to topics that you are involved in.

Would it not be better for topics that you post in to be automatically tracked in order to see updates and replys. I know some users may post for a one off and dont wish to see replys so there could be an opt out 'dont track' box for those who wish it.

I say this cause I tend to forget to tick the box and have to go wondering through the forms again to find those topics I have posted in and look for replies etc.

Just a thought but it is one that occurs on most other sites with topic involvment on them.

Well for topics that you "started" it automatically tracks but for topics that you did not start but instead replied with a post it does not track, you must click the track option which makes sense to me.

this is a great comment. i'm not sure the best way to do it - by default TRACK everything you post to? or not? there are arguments each way.

one thing that MIGHT help is that for comments where you have posted there is an icon next to them (my threads = My thread).

would people like tracking on or off more?

I know for points that are started , they are automatically posted and tracked for you. Posts that you replt and add to are not and this is the point that I am making surely if more than not when you reply to a posting you will wish to see what replys and comments come after that posted by yourself and should therefore be tracked automatically. making more sence, If the person posts and doesnt care whither they see the replys then they can tick the 'dont track option' this will save un-needed and oops I forgot to tick the track button posts that I have posted and have others possib;y in order that they can then track the post, because they forgot to sdo so on their initial post.

The auto track is the way forward, save hastle and time wasting and stupid messages if you forget to tick the track button.
