Vote Chess matches are ruined for teamplay

Everything that has been said so far can be summarized in a few words, and that Chess.com could and should resolve/implement as soon as possible, for those who love the "Vote Chess" modality. In a "Vote Chess" game, EVERYTHING, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, SHOULD BE VISIBLE TO THE TEAM, because it is a team game, by the team, for the team, in function of the team, coordinated by the team, managed by the team, led by the team. Any other definition of "Vote Chess" is a mere mistake. And, in my opinion, changing the name to "Team Chess" and not "Vote Chess". In a "Team Chess" a player does not VOTE on a move, he/she SUGGESTS a move. It is not an ELECTION, it is a CONSENSUS. The concept is wrong. This is a suggestion for Chess.com.

Yes voting is a tiny aspect of the whole team chess happening. Better rebrand it to "team chess" indeed. I am on the same eagon

The German name for Vote Chess is indeed "Consultation Chess". The consultation before (!) voting and the whole team dynamics are far more importing than the voting act. Indeed everything must be transparent - also the comments -after- the game, only one but important reason to see the influence of the cheaters.

but "Team Chess" sound nicer. - The "team matches" show also 2 teams playing, but everyone plays the own game only and consulting the team colleagues about their moves is not allowed. You add the points at the end, that's all about "team".

Bramblyspam

I prefer "vote chess". After all, voting is the distinguishing characteristic of the format.
"Team chess" would be confused with team matches.

uglyork

Exactly - team matches don't deserve that name -)
Yep, voting is the distinguishing characteristic, and so too many think voting is the only important act, not thinking.

Can you link me to where you are seeing this not work?

Here's another one. I just voted in this game. As of this writing, there are 5 votes for one move and 1 vote for another. I can see who the 5 voters are, but not the 1.

My English is not that good, maybe your question has already been answered and I missed it. The reason you can't see who voted here is because the move came with a check.

Andrea

Again it is not possible to see who has voted for a move sad.png

@JDCannon can you please check and repair

Kookaburrra

I just checked a game and I could see who voted. It seems inconsistent at the moment.

Apparently when a check is given, then the "feature" of not seeing the votes is still present. See also the entry #108 from @newbie4711.

This means they hastily (=troublesome) "fixed" this. I guess the code is that buggy with patch upon patch, that noone fully understands it anymore. I think the documentation is not very well done and especially where there is a lot of change of personnel, this leads to problems.

But at least with this forum we have the attention, so I guess they will do something about it.

But I still think they should communicate better about fixing stuff. In everyone's interest.

Avoiding a lot of frustration as well. Come on, chess.com, you can do it if you really want!

Andrea

I am confused. What is the logic behind not seeing who has voted in case of a given check?

stephen_33

No logic at all Andrea, merely one of the many coding errors by developers on this site.

Andrea

If I understand you well @Kookaburrra, @Wouterkabouter and @Stephen_33 it is like this

MGleason

The issue of not being able to see who voted for a move with a check is a pre-existing bug. I ran into it in the past. So the latest fix put us back where we were before but does not fix everything.

I would like to see, at minimum, a vote chess style similar to Chess Olympiad team play. Each side has a private huddle to discuss strategy, tactics, the next move etc. But a team captain making the final board moves.

I've all but given up on vote chess - its like there are people determined to make the worse move on purpose sad.png

@KrisKross059 - you need to join some clubs that take their vote chess seriously?

There are quite a few aound if you search.

Then we get their names and never let them play on at least that particular team.

Yes, that's exactly what I think, and what other colleagues here also agree with. There should be a change in the concept of this game mode. A free, random, solitary vote, without the approval of the team, can destroy the entire team strategy, and perhaps the game. This should not be allowed. A captain appointed by the team should be responsible for managing all the suggestions from the team members, and determining together with the team through consensus, which move is decided for that play. Then only the captain should have access to the system to input the team's move. I believe that this change should not be difficult to be implemented by Chess.com's systems programmers. This would eliminate a good part of the problems that teams have, with players who are not committed to the team, and with cheating players.
