Abort unavailable

This at least the 2nd time this has occurred on my iPad. I pLay a 5 minute game and I'm black. Neither person has made move. I select the button that normally brings up the menu where Abort option is first. I don't pay attention and hit the first option that is Resign. In certain instances Abort is not displayed and I unwittingly press Resign. This happens at the worse moments, when I'm paired with a very low ranked opponent.

You can't abort games because you have aborted a lot games in the past ! You will be able to abort again if you play a number of games or if some time passes (I don't remember which of them) Wink

If you abort too many games the server takes the abort button off you.

I've lowered the fair play policy for you now so the abort button will now show, but there are custom settings there so you shouldn't need to abort that many times :)

Ah... I only abort when I'm paired with an opponent who is ranked so low it doesn't make sense for me to play them. This doesn't happen too much though. Does my abort count get affected when others abort the pairing?

In my opinion there are a number of problems with Chess.com's handling of this?

1) You shouldn't change the position of popup buttons without telling the user (especially by replacing it with resign)

2) Nobody should benefit from a game when their opponent hasn't moved

3) Something is wrong with the abort threshold logic

4) The user should have to confirm the resign

5) If the abort threshold has truly been reached. the user should be made aware of the situation

Lagomorph

You should use the settings in the game seek, to make sure you are matched with a player of the raking you want.

SteveGTR

Good suggestion, but most of the time I simply like to press a button.

I set the min and max rating values on the Account --> Online Chess Settings page. We'll see if that does the trick. I still feel this is an area that needs improvement, but hopefully it will help me to not resign a game where nobody has moved...

Its the Settings within live chess not the one you see on your livechess/home

In live chess Filter you can select the games challenges you want to see in the seek/graph

From New Game tab (Custom) you can enter the ratings of your opponent for min/max

The Account setting that I outlined above seems to be working for me. Why don't you check it out?

SteveGTR

For the most part the setting seems to work. I have had two sub-1000 games in the last 6 days. So it appears to respect my settings for the most part... Needs work thought.

Hello , I have aborted only 2 games . Not even back to back , and yet my abort option has disappeared. I really hope it comes back.

Stop aborting games. If you do not want to play then resign.

I miscked the play button , its tottaly fine to use the abort button isn't it? And why would I want to resign when the abort option is available ?

Hi,

You have answered your own question, using the abort button to much will get removed it's only supposed to be used sparingly.

Hello, Even for me the abort button is not showing, please revert is back team Chess.com

Even I am facing same problem. I watched a video featuring new opening with white. I wanted to try it out, but I got paired as black for about 7-8 games. I aborted each time, and now I’m not able to find abort button…
