Accepting rematches

Pawnndercover

Hello, this is a topic that I personally do not know what to feel about. I wonder if you have a responsibility to accept rematch offers when playing live chess, or I guess a better way of putting it, is if it is custom to do so. My guess would be that you should always accept a rematch offer considering all the "runner" insult comments you get if you decline a rematch. But it would be interesting to know other peoples input on this topic. I usually accept rematch offers but sometimes you are in a hurry or for some other reason don't want to play against the same guy, or even just don't want to play another game.

if some one is using bad language in comments for any reason, I am of personal opininon that, such people must be avoided in the first place. I personally, feel that the forum must give a platform wherein we can name such people and get them disciplined. Definetely one should avoid playing with such people.

Wonder no longer.  You have no responsibility whatsoever to play a rematch.  The 13-year old kid type of reaction of posting a "runner" rant on peope's notes page is just part of doing anything online.

It would be good if in v3 of chess.com they would give an option in live chess to play a series of 3, 5, 7, or whatever games.  Then the kids would have no excuse to moan when people don't accept a replay because they should have just chosen that option and been paired up with someone else who wants the same.

But yeah, there's a thrad on this subject almost every week, but usually from of the remach ranters.

I must admit that I was sending ugly messages to players who have not accepted the rematch . There is no reason not to accept the rematch . So it's only 10 minutes. I guess it all hang out here because of the beautiful game, not only to collect points due to higher rating

glamdring27

There might be no reason for you not to accept a rematch.

I need a reason to accept a rematch though rather than a reason not to and there is no reason to.

Chess was invented in the east, in the philosophy of chess there is no reason that the opponent can not be a rematch. Chess is not a material thing, commodity, and that is bought and sold as western philosophy, which I see that you are fond of, my friend. The very value of chess is the beauty of games and countless combinations. If you do not understand - do not play this game.

glamdring27

I'll see if my boss thinks the beauty of games and countless combinations is a sufficient reason for me to carry on playing chess when my lunch break is over just because my opponent insists on a pointless rematch!

I'm sure eastern philosophy didn't demand petty revenge either when someone loses a game, but people on here do.

Skinnyhorse

I usually play the 15 minute with a 10 second increment game and they frequently take a half hour and I have no extra time to spare for a re-match.

I'm not avoiding, I'm not disliking, I'll play you the next time I'm online,  I just have time for only one game!

Just thinking.....

Mickovelikisrbin

Just what I said, what a shitty Super Bowl? Nobody even heard of it, except you in the United States. You can not compare that kind of fun to chess games. Do you understand at all?

Mickovelikisrbin

Glamdring 27 ---Nobody talks about revenge, man, just trying to explain that chess is not a video game, the opponent is respected, to be in that game interwoven billion combinations that two human beings have the choice. It's only a game, or better yet - competition that exists, and no one can hurt opponents in any way. Sundries decide the winner here, and because the opponent should be given a rematch. It is this word `` revans`` only makes sense in chess

Mickovelikisrbin

Draeby ---- OK, I respect your attitude

People mostly whine about someone "running" and not rematching when they lost => they want revenge for their loss.

This is an online server though - you just get matched up with an internet name, you're not sat across the board from a real person.  You just play a game of chess and move on.  If I lose to one person I'll try to beat the next person I play.  Either way it's just an internet name, but for variety I'd rather play a different one next time than the one I just played.  It's the great advantage of an online server with thousands of people.

If I was sat across a real chess board from someone I'd be far more likely to play a series of matches than keep getting up and looking for a new opponent every 10 minutes,

You do not get the point, but it does not matter.

I have at least 3 reasons not to accept a rematch:

1) I like to analyse the game right away

2) I like to relax and take a break between the games

3) I find it's more fun to play another opponent and not the same one

1. analysis of the match, which lasts for 10 minutes can not be of any help 2. Do not play a match that lasts several hours so you should break 3. even a million opponents and will not learn anything if you do not know have to fulfill one

Yes! It is mandatory that accept ALL rematch offers. If you do not you are the lowest weakest form of coward that has ever lifted a chess piece.

1. You are simply wrong - analysis of any of your games can be useful.

2. I like to break after every game - doesn't matter how long it lasted.

3. You wrote: "even a million opponents and will not learn anything if you do not know have to fulfill one". I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Only something a complete and utter moron would say!

You are under no obligation to give a rematch, and people that talk junk about those that don't offer rematches are merely low, good-for-nothing imbeciles that don't understand a lick of maturity, and whose deadbeat Mom's were busy playing Tetris rather than actually teaching these good for nothing imbeciles anything about manners!

If your opponent doesn't want to play a second game, doesn't have time to play a second game, or wants his next game to be against a different opponent, you have no right to bash him or her just because you are too much of a weasel and can't accept a loss like a man (or woman, depending on your own body parts).

Mickovelikisrbin
Please, this has gone too far . You do not have to insult each other. Simply, everyone has their own attitude. Enough of this.
