Yes, there are many forms of stalemate.

I understand. I had no way of knowing who you were responding to, or if you were just making a blanket statement about the differences between checkmate and stalemate. The OP says he's a beginner, so he might assume a stalemate is ONLY when a side is not in check but any move would result in check. He may not know that's not always the case.
I have no idea if the position I posted has ever occurred. Beginners often make bizarre pointless moves that result in positions we might think are unlikely to ever happen. The rules have to cover all those unlikely positions. Maybe a more likely position could be something like this....
But that happened because I left him without any more pieces left rather than the king, shouldn't it count as a Checkmate? It's so unfair to lose with that huge advantage!
