The time seal for fics is ok but you can't filter out opponents with excessive lag. Hypothetical situation.. you choose to play a 5 minute blitz but you have to get ready to go to work and the person you are playing has a bad connection. This could be annoying.. I have played 5 minute games on fics that lasted over an hour.
All i play are unrated 2/1 games, and have not had a problem with this lag people keep talking about?
I am playing 3 min games for long time.
Recently I lost several games on time, when my time run down instantly from 15-20 sec to zero.
Is this because my computer is too slow? Thanks for your insight. Paul
I have the same problem. Every time i play tournaments i keep getting disconnected or lose on time (or start 40seconds in).
Very annoying!
I know right. This should be of greatest concern. If my time was real just like in real world chess blitz, I would win more.
Good luck if you ever get a proper and official response. There are some players who in my opinion are manipulating things such that when you play them, you get lag, disconnects and unexplained time jumps. I know there is a problem that maybe chess.com are not ready to address, otherwise, why would games in club arenas hosted by a streamer or GM or IM play well without lag or disconnect? It is the same website. I cant sign for full membership knowing I will always be losing on time jumps and disconnects, even when other sites and pages and streams work fine and flawless. The explanation that my internet is slow simply does not make sense.
Topic very 'zeitgeist', just lost a game, and there were even wrong positions, that were not legal in the game. This was not the first time I have observed this on this page, but I thought maybe I am not used to the premove system initially. However, up to now I have collected enough evidence that this issue is related to chess.com (abundancy > 20%) compared to a reference (lichess.com, < 5%). Is there a better connection for premium members? My internet connection is well enough, the domain internal server must be the problem if not. I can lose, but it is no fun to lose because of that. By the way, is there an option to disable this time consumptive piece 'undo' animation? Peace

Do you have a link to the game you think had an illegal postion? I don't think I have ever seen one here; what is assumed illegal is not, there is just some misunderstanding of the rules.
As to better connections for premium, there are no ads, so that will improve things. One thing to note; your internet connection can be rock solid but the links between your ISP and the chess.com servers may not be and chess.com has no impact on those connections, just how lag and disconnects are handled.
Also, processes on your system or local network can impact the packets being sent to and received from the site, causing disconnects and resends that will increase lag.

2020 still the same problem... I am quite fast but I can literally see my time jumping from like 56 to 46 in bullet. I end up losing on time cause my opponents have more time (my time) to think about their move.
lag problem:= time lost by bad connection.
Other sites have solved that. timeseal adds lost time back to clock. Please find a solution.
