I was playing a 10-minute rapid game, and in about the middle of it, my opponent stopped playing. His clock ran down to about 1 minute, and then he moved. Suddenly, his clock went back up to 9 minutes and MY clock jumped down to 1 minute. It was almost as if our clocks had swapped. I have no idea if this is a game issue or something intentional by my opponent, but please share if you have any information.
Your opponent can't impact your connection or cause something like that.
What you're describing generally is what happens when you're disconnected from the live server process.
