GM simul in Colchester UK 7 October 2023

The late Grandmaster Dr Jonathan Penrose OBE would have been 90 years old on 7 October 2023. To celebrate his life in chess a Jonathan Penrose Chess Park (public chess tables) is being opened in the City of Colchester, UK where he was born.

The opening event features a simul by GM Michael Adams. His highest ranking is world No. 4, and his peak Elo rating is 2761, the highest achieved by an English chess player.

The opening event, The Jonathan Penrose Memorial Chess Challenge, is for charity and as such some of the places to play are open to 'highest bidder' with publicity for sponsors.

The event is at Colchester Town Hall and is in aid of the Mayor’s Charities – a range of causes selected annually by each new Colchester mayor.
