I used to try to run a meetup club before 2019 in the Richmond district but didn’t get enough interest after the initial group of people has become bored. It was mostly new people whom I was teaching how to play.
In San Francisco we do have an old chess club at the Mechanics Institute in downtown on Market street. The problem is that pubic safety is pretty bad currently, plus there may not always be a player if similar rank.
