I assume you don't mean how to create a puzzle board which has been covered in other forum topics. So, I think you're asking how do I find the position with a line leading to a Queen capture.

So, I regularly evaluate games by GMs and if I discover a position where the Queen can be threatened, I'll follow that line to see if it leads to a Queen capture. In puzzle #101, it came from a game I played today against a 550 bot. In the game, I opted to play Nxf7 to capture Rh8 on the next move. But, when I reviewed the game, I discovered the computer preferred Rxf7 to threaten the Black Queen and prevent a King-side castle. I followed that line until I found the beautiful fork. The computer had the Queen captured earlier with Nxd4, but I tried a longer line and found the beautiful triple fork which I preferred for the puzzle.

When you are close to promotion the opponent Queen becomes vulnerable to capture trying to defend the King. Can you promote and capture the Black Queen in 7 moves?

I agree. I replaced #111 with an easier puzzle. Let me know if you like it better than the previous version.

I'm not ready to play humans. But thanks all the same. Only picked up chess a couple of years ago to pass the time at home during the Covid pandemic. I need to work more on opening theory.

[Edit: more detail added to instructions] Capture the Black Rook and Black Queen in 8 moves to control the back rank.

Why have the solver play all those moves when the queen capture is already assured after white's second move?

Checkmate is achieved sooner with the puzzle solution because White takes control of the back rank. If Black is left with control of the back rank it will take longer to find checkmate.
