What the hell have you done to puzzles
I haven't done any puzzles for a while, but from what I remember the ratings were always a bit of a joke.
But for the purpose of tracking progress the rating has a purpose. Although you can still see the rating in stats, the puzzle section in the app is now a kids game with different levels.
Yeah, they were useful to an extent, but the leaderboard was like several on 3700, and they weren't Magnus C or anybody like that.
I’d forget the leaderboard- I think it’s possible to cheat without repercussions on puzzles and get a max score. Not sure why people would want to waste their time doing that though. What’s more useful is looking at the leaderboard of your friend list.
It appears that recent modifications to chess puzzles have led to frustration. Chess platforms frequently update puzzles to enhance difficulty or variety, which may initially feel unfamiliar. You can try modifying your approach, exploring new tactics, or concentrating on pattern recognition. In time, the new puzzles may improve your skills.

I’m not talking about the puzzles themselves, but the format of the puzzles being part of some gimmicky game where you progress along a path and go through different levels, starting with wood, like a 90s sega mega drive game.
I do puzzles on the app, and I would focus on improving my puzzle rating as an indicator of performance. Now I cannot see my rating unless I go onto stats.
Im complaining here about something minor really but it’s just annoying to see the app turn into some sort of kids game to try and appeal to younger people who are downloading the app. If they cant appreciate the game in itself then they can go back to candy crush. I suppose they are trying to run a business though and are looking to increase revenue.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I was wrong though: the top of the leaderboard is several on 65540, which is probably the highest value their field will allow (2 to the power of 16, I think).
I realise now you can switch this function off- click ‘stop collecting points’ and it goes back to rating display. I suppose they have to appeal to the kids somehow don’t they.
It is more or less 2 to the power of 16, 65 536, or 64K, the highest value that will fit into a 16-bit field.
But you get used to it working one way, then have to switch the function off to get it back to to the way it was. Absolute contempt for the users (David P, IT techie 1977-2012).
My rating has gone up from 800 to 805 after doing 1 (David P, Chess.com user 2023-4). I'd put a 'smiley' here if it'd let me.
I'm up over a 1000 now. The thing that always bugged me is, '21 in a row, a new PB etc.', it gives a speed bonus and target time, but by that time you don't know what your actual time was!
Why did you have to turn puzzles into some sort of kids game? Why can’t I see my puzzle rating and progress like before?? Small signs that we are dumbing down as a society.
